Epic Beat the Streak run snapped at 50 games

User falls one pick short of tying record on $5.6 million quest

September 9th, 2019

For the second consecutive day, a player had the chance to tie the all-time record of 51 games in Beat the Streak presented by MGM Resorts. And for the second consecutive day, the streak -- seven successful picks away from a $5.6 million grand prize, was snapped.

User "57 hits" fell short of the figure inspiring the name. But there are several others in pursuit of the grand prize, awarded to whomever successfully selects one or two batters each day who will get a hit, putting together a streak of 57 games to eclipse the MLB record of 56 set by legendary Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio in 1941.

User "57 hits" selected Boston's Xander Bogaerts to push the streak ever closer to the jackpot, but Bogaerts went 0-for-4 against the Yankees at Fenway Park on Sunday.

That means the record of 51 games -- held jointly by Robert Mosley (2017) and Roberto Aguirre-Hunn Jr. (this year) -- is safe, for now.

Here's a look at the current 40-plus club.

User: kentavlas, 41

User "kentavlas" doubled down and selected both McNeil and of the Red Sox. Both came through with hits, as McNeil went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles against the Phillies at Citi Field, and Devers singled in four at-bats against the Yankees at Fenway Park.

Popular selections for "kentavlas" so far have been the Dodgers'  (36 times) and Yelich (35).

User: baldegle3, 40

No one has won the grand prize in the 18 years Beat the Streak has been played. Will one of these four players be the one to do it?
