Shane McClanahan, Rays
McClanahan will undergo imaging on his pitching arm after leaving Saturday's game early with what manager Kevin Cash called a left triceps-related issue.
McClanahan was just days removed from making his first appearance in a game since the 2023 season. The Rays’ ace is at the tail end of his return from a second Tommy John surgery.
Yu Darvish, Matt Waldron and Jhony Brito, Padres
Darvish will miss the start of the season with right elbow inflammation.
Waldron will be out through Opening Day after he suffered a left oblique strain while warming up in the bullpen on March 14. As of March 21, he had yet to resume throwing.
Brito had right elbow soreness and diminished velocity in his final spring appearance and has since backed off of throwing.
Matt Strahm and Ranger Suárez, Phillies
Strahm (left shoulder soreness) struck out three in a scoreless inning on March 22 at Carpenter Complex. It was his first game action since March 5. If Strahm feels OK the next day, he is expected to pitch in the Grapefruit League finale on March 24. If he feels OK after that, he is expected to open the season in the bullpen.
Suárez's sore back is better, but there is a long way to go before knowing if he will make his first scheduled start in the rotation. He has a throwing session scheduled for March 22.
Clarke Schmidt, Ian Hamilton, Paul Goldschmidt, DJ LeMahieu, Mark Leiter Jr., Gerrit Cole and Giancarlo Stanton, Yankees
Schmidt, who was scratched from a scheduled start on March 17 due to fatigue in his right shoulder, will open the season on the IL, GM Brian Cashman said March 22. Schmidt has also been dealing with back stiffness, Cashman said.
Hamilton will also begin the season on the IL while recovering from an infection, Cashman said.
Stanton has still not resumed baseball activities as of March 22. He said on March 8 that his tendon injuries are considered “severe in both elbows." Stanton received a third round of PRP injections on March 10. He's also dealing with a minor calf issue.
LeMahieu has begun taking ground balls as of March 22 as he recovers from a left calf strain suffered on March 1. He had already resumed swinging a bat, hitting off a tee and moving around in mid-March.
Goldschmidt said on March 21 that his back feels “100 percent, or very, very close to it,” one day after participating in live batting practice drills at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The veteran first baseman continues to believe he will be ready for Opening Day.
Leiter Jr. was scratched from his March 13 appearance with back discomfort. He threw approximately 30 pitches in a bullpen session on March 16 and 18 pitches in another session March 19.
Cole underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery on March 11. The procedure, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, was a complete UCL reconstruction that also included an internal brace.
Jerar Encarnacion and Jung Hoo Lee, Giants
Encarnacion will miss an extended period of the regular season with a hairline fracture in his left hand, manager Bob Melvin said on March 22. Encarnacion exited the Giants' March 21 Cactus League game after jamming his left ring finger while attempting to make a diving catch.
Lee was scratched from the starting lineup on March 15 after waking up with a tight back. An MRI showed no structural damage. Lee is expected to resume baseball activities on March 22 and is hoping to return to action for the March 23 exhibition game against Triple-A Sacramento.
George Kirby, Mariners
Kirby was shut down from throwing on March 7 due to right shoulder inflammation and will begin the season on the injured list. He played catch for roughly 20 throws at 60 feet on March 21 and will do so again on March 22 at 75 feet.
Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts, Dodgers
Freeman was sidelined for both games of the Tokyo Series due to left rib discomfort.
Betts (illness) did not play in the Tokyo Series as he continues to recover from an illness.
Parker Meadows, Matt Vierling, Alex Cobb, Alex Lange and Sawyer Gipson-Long, Tigers
Meadows will get four weeks of rest while he waits for a nerve in his upper right arm to heal, manager A.J. Hinch said on March 22. A test indicated no damage to the musculocutaneous nerve, which has kept him sidelined since the first game of Spring Training last month.
Vierling (right rotator cuff muscle strain) began a hitting progression the week of March 17 and was cleared to advance his shoulder strengthening program after a three-week checkup exam.
Cobb (right hip inflammation) is scheduled to throw his third bullpen session of the spring on March 23.
Lange (right lat surgery recovery) is throwing bullpen sessions twice a week, with his next session scheduled for March 22.
Gipson-Long (right elbow/left hip surgery recovery) threw his entire arsenal in his latest bullpen session on March 20.
Max Scherzer, Daulton Varsho and Alek Manoah, Blue Jays
Scherzer (right thumb soreness) faced Minor League hitters in a simulated game on March 17. He is scheduled to pitch for the Blue Jays on March 22, and if all goes well coming out of that game, the team expects him to be ready for his first start of the season.
Manager John Schneider announced on March 22 that Varsho (right shoulder surgery) will start the season on the injured list.
Manoah threw off a mound on March 15 for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. He threw off a mound again on March 22.
Jared Jones, Pirates
Jones will not pitch again in Spring Training after reporting right elbow discomfort to the Pirates after his bullpen session on March 16. The club is still learning about the severity of Jones' injury.
Spencer Steer and Andrew Abbott, Reds
Steer (right shoulder soreness) will open the season on the IL, manager Terry Francona said on March 22. Steer began hitting in a Minor League game on March 20 and took more swings against Reds reliever Scott Barlow during live batting practice on March 21.
Abbott (left shoulder) will begin the season on the injured list.
Grayson Rodriguez, Gunnar Henderson, Félix Bautista and Jorge Mateo, Orioles
Rodriguez, who will start the season on the IL due to right elbow inflammation, received a cortisone shot. He is now routinely playing catch from 75 feet.
Henderson (mild right intercostal strain) will take live batting practice for the first time on March 22. He is running out of time to be ready for Opening Day.
Bautista (Tommy John surgery recovery) has pitched in four Grapefruit League games, but the team is still unsure whether he'll be ramped up in time for Opening Day.
Mateo (left UCL reconstruction surgery) has played in four Grapefruit League games, but he remains "pretty doubtful" for Opening Day, per manager Brandon Hyde.
Nico Hoerner, Cubs
Hoerner (right flexor tendon surgery) missed the Tokyo Series but made his Cactus League debut on March 21 and is expected to be ready for the Cubs' domestic opener on March 27.
Spencer Strider and Jurickson Profar, Braves

Profar (jammed left wrist) returned to the Braves’ lineup on March 20.

Masataka Yoshida, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford, and Lucas Giolito, Red Sox
Yoshida (right shoulder labrum tear) continues to DH in Grapefruit League games, but he is only throwing at 100 feet as of March 22, manager Alex Cora said. He will continue to get regular at-bats in Fort Myers after the team breaks camp and then will join Triple-A Worcester for a rehab assignment.
Bello is trending in the right direction after a bout of right shoulder inflammation at the start of Spring Training, but he will begin the season on the injured list, manager Alex Cora announced on March 11. Bello threw live batting practice on March 12 and did so again on March 17.
Crawford (right patellar soreness) is scheduled to throw two side sessions this week and should advance to live batting practice by next week.
Giolito will begin the season on the injured list with a low-grade left hamstring strain, Cora said on March 13. He should only miss two to three starts at the beginning of the regular season.
Christian Walker, Lance McCullers Jr. and Luis Garcia, Astros
Walker (sore left oblique) has missed most of the spring with his injury, but he has resumed baseball drills and will get some at-bats in Minor League games during the final weekend of Grapefruit League play.
McCullers (right flexor tendon surgery) threw a scoreless inning in his first Grapefruit League game on March 18. It was McCullers' first game action in about 28 months.
Garcia (Tommy John surgery) has been shut down with right elbow soreness and will be evaluated by team doctors. He had been scheduled to throw his first live batting practice session of the spring on March 20.
Thairo Estrada, Rockies
Estrada suffered a non-displaced fracture in his right wrist and will miss “anywhere from 4-8 weeks,” manager Bud Black said March 21.
Brice Turang, Nick Mears, Tobias Myers, Brandon Woodruff, Blake Perkins and Aaron Ashby, Brewers
Turang (right arm fatigue) underwent testing after reporting discomfort in his throwing arm. An MRI showed no structural damage and he is expected to be ready for Opening Day, although he may be limited to second base duties.
Mears will open the season on the IL after he lost nine pounds while battling a stomach bug during the week of March 10.
Myers will begin the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with a left oblique strain. But a return to action before the end of April is in play based on the results of an MRI scan, manager Pat Murphy said on March 17.
Woodruff (right shoulder surgery) started against the Guardians on March 16. It was his first time pitching in a Major League game in 18 months.
Perkins (right shin fracture) was cleared to resume limited activity on March 14 but has not yet been cleared for full baseball activities.
Ashby's (right oblique strain) symptoms were persisting as of March 14. "It might turn into a longer process than we thought," Murphy said.
Brandon Nimmo, Dedniel Núñez and Jeff McNeil, Mets
Nimmo (right knee soreness) played left field in a Grapefruit League game for the first time this spring on March 17 and is optimistic about playing on Opening Day.
Núñez (strained right flexor tendon) made his spring debut with a scoreless inning on March 17. He'll either be ready for Opening Day or will join the team slightly after that date.
McNeil has a low-grade right oblique strain and will miss Opening Day.
Jon Gray and Cody Bradford, Rangers
Gray was diagnosed with a right wrist fracture after he was struck by a 106.4 mph comebacker in his Cactus League start on March 14. He has been shut down for at least six weeks.

Yoán Moncada and Zach Neto, Angels
Moncada (right thumb soreness) hasn’t played since March 12 but reported on March 17 that he felt confident he would be ready for Opening Day.
Although he will miss the start of the season, Neto is ahead of schedule in his recovery from right shoulder surgery. He has been throwing without any issues.
Kyle Wright and Alec Marsh, Royals
Wright, who missed the entire 2024 season rehabbing from right shoulder surgery, threw his first live BP on March 20.
Marsh (right shoulder soreness) threw in a Minor League game on March 19, his first game action of the year.
Ryan Weathers, Edward Cabrera and Jesús Sánchez, Marlins
Weathers is expected to miss four to six weeks after being diagnosed with a left forearm strain on March 20.
Cabrera (right middle finger blister) will begin the season on the injured list, with the expectation of missing the first two turns through the rotation, manager Clayton McCullough announced on March 18.
A strained left oblique will cause Sánchez to miss the next four weeks. He'll begin the season on the injured list.
Kendall Graveman, D-backs
Manager Torey Lovullo said that Graveman (back tightness) is currently in “a treatment phase,” making it uncertain whether he will be ready for Opening Day.

Benintendi (right hand fracture) went through live batting practice on March 17 and returned to game action on March 19. He may be able to play on Opening Day.
