Yankee Stadium bowl game becomes Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl
NEW YORK -- The Bronx just got a little bit badder.
The Pinstripe Bowl revealed its new title sponsor on Tuesday, partnering with Bad Boy Mowers on a multi-year sponsorship that will rename the annual bowl game between Big Ten and ACC teams at Yankee Stadium the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl.
“Being the title sponsor of the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl gives Bad Boy Mowers a national platform in partnership with the most iconic sports brand in the world and in the most famous sports venue in the world,” said Mark Holtzman, executive director of the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl. “So I think it's a great combination, alongside with the ACC and the Big Ten, marquee brands all across the board, and a lot of success is definitely going to happen in the future.”
Legends Global Partnerships, a division of global premium experiences company Legends, negotiated the naming rights partnership for the Pinstripe Bowl with Bad Boy Mowers.
Bad Boy Mowers, which is celebrating its 20th year in business, is deeply involved in college sports, serving as the title sponsor of the men’s and women’s basketball “Bad Boy Mowers Battle 4 Atlantis” tournament in the Bahamas at the beginning of the college basketball season. The company also sponsored the Gasparilla Bowl from 2017-2019, so Tuesday’s announcement returns the company into the college football business.
“A lot of our customers love college football,” said Peter Ballantyne, CEO of Bad Boy Mowers. “We love college football. I think it's just a perfect, perfect match for Bad Boy Mowers to extend our brand through that northern Midwest down through the East Coast and really present what is a fantastic company and a great product to a whole new market. That's why we're here.”
The year-round sponsorship will include significant signage behind home plate and in the outfield beginning in Spring Training at Tampa’s George M. Steinbrenner Field. Bad Boy Mowers will also operate promotionally during baseball season leading into football season.
College football bowl games began in 1902 with the Rose Bowl, but it wasn’t until 1935 that more games were added to the slate. There were five bowl games in existence in 1940; today, there are 43.
“These bowl games are located in destinations like New York City, Pasadena, Calif., Miami, Fla., and everywhere in between. They're all very unique,” said Nick Carparelli, executive director of Bowl Season.
“If you think about it, bowl season's one of the greatest and longest running traditions in American sports. It takes place every December. New York City is the greatest city in the world, especially over the holidays, and Yankee Stadium is home to the greatest sports franchise in the world, period.”
The 2022 Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl will be played at Yankee Stadium on Thursday, Dec. 29, featuring teams from the Big Ten and ACC Conferences. This year will mark the 12th edition of the game and the eighth consecutive Pinstripe Bowl to feature teams from the Big Ten and ACC.
