Meadows, Suárez named Players of the Month
Major League Baseball on Monday selected Rays outfielder Austin Meadows and Reds third baseman Eugenio Suárez as the Players of the Month for September.
Meadows earned American League honors after hitting .378/.472/.744 with nine homers and 20 RBIs over 24 games in September, helping the Rays earn the second AL Wild Card spot.
The 24-year-old is the Rays' first AL Player of the Month Award winner since B.J. Upton in June 2009.
Suárez, meanwhile, recorded a .337/.455/.747 slash line with 10 homers and 18 RBIs over 25 games in September to win the National League Player of the Month Award.
Suárez, 28, set the single-season NL record for homers by a third baseman with his 49th of the year on Sept. 25. The Reds notched back-to-back NL Player of the Month Award winners to finish out the season, as rookie Aristides Aquino earned recognition for August.
