Braves Stat of the Day: June 2021
Braves Stat of the Day: June 2021
July 2nd, 2021
MLB.com is keeping track of a Stat of the Day for the Braves this season, highlighting a unique, interesting or fun nugget from each game.
June 30: Braves 20, Mets 2 -- Albies' career night Ozzie Albies homered twice, tallied a career-high five hits and drove in a career-best seven runs. Albies joins Joe Adcock (July 31, 1954) as the only Braves to ever tally five hits, two homers and seven RBIs in a game. Adcock actually had four homers and a double in Milwaukee's 15-7 win over Brooklyn.
June 29: Mets 4, Braves 3 -- Leads hard to keep With their 4-3 loss to the Mets on Tuesday, the Braves fell to 33-8 when leading after six innings. Their eight losses in these situations match the Phillies for the most in the National League. The Blue Jays have a MLB-worst nine losses in such games. Atlanta went 27-0 in these games last year.
June 27: Braves 4, Reds 0 -- 5th time allowing 2 hits With their win over the Reds on Sunday, the Braves allowed just two hits. They have now surrendered two hits or less in five games this year. The only teams to do this more frequently in 2021 are the Dodgers, White Sox and Brewers, who all entered Sunday having done so six times.
June 26: Reds 4, Braves 1 -- Three runs or fewer, again With their loss to the Reds on Saturday, the Braves scored three runs or fewer for the ninth straight game, only mustering an RBI single from Guillermo Heredia. This is their third-longest such streak going back to 2000. The club also did this over 11 consecutive games from Sept. 12-23, 2014, and over 10 straight games from July 22-Aug. 1, 2015.
June 25: Braves 3, Reds 2 -- Braves bash way to history With Dansby Swanson and Guillermo Heredia hitting solo shots, Atlanta increased its homer total to 107, which ranks second in the National League. That marks the fourth-highest total produced by any Braves team through the first 75 games of a season. The only years the club hit more home runs were 2003 (119), 2019 (115) and 1996 (108).
June 24: Reds 5, Braves 3 -- Loyalty pays off With his first-inning homer, Freddie Freeman tallied his 899th RBI and 897th career run, all with the Braves. Just two active players in baseball have scored 900 and driven in 900 for a single team. Joey Votto has scored 1,059 and driven in 996 for Cincinnati, while Ryan Zimmerman has scored 951 runs and plated 1,035 for the Nationals.
June 23: Mets 7, Braves 3 -- A different way to score Atlanta has been one of baseball's most homer-reliant teams this season (the Braves entered the day having scored 49.1 percent of their runs via home runs, which ranked second in the Majors), but found a different way to score. With Ehire Adrianza's RBI single in the sixth inning, the Braves snapped a streak of four games in which their only method of scoring was the long ball. Only the Cubs (June 14-19) have a longer streak of homers-only scoring this season.
June 22: Braves 3, Mets 0 -- Morton's long road to 100 Charlie Morton debuted with the Braves on June 14, 2008, and promptly earned his first MLB win. Against the Mets, he earned win No. 100. But most of his victories in between came elsewhere, as he made stops with the Pirates, Phillies, Astros and Rays. The 37-year-old is the first pitcher to win his first and his 100th game for the same team -- while winning elsewhere in between -- since Dodgers righty Hideo Nomo in 2003.
