Astros No. 3 prospect Alvarez belts 3 home runs
Astros No. 3 prospect Yordan Alvarez, the No. 43 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, had a huge game at the plate for Triple-A Round Rock in the Express' 7-5 win over New Orleans in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
Alvarez, 21, went 3-for-3 with a walk and three home runs, his first three on the young season. The first came in the second inning, a solo shot to left-center field on the first pitch he saw from New Orleans right-hander Hector Noesi. The second was also off Noesi, this one another solo shot to left-center in the fourth.
To cap off the trio, Alvarez launched a third solo homer, this one to center field off left-handed reliever Mike Kickham in the sixth inning.
The left fielder hit .293/.369/.534 with 20 home runs in 88 games between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Fresno last year, reaching Triple-A in just his third season in the Astros organization.
