WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- From the players to manager Joe Espada, the Astros’ new City Connect uniforms, which were unveiled Wednesday and will be available for fans to purchase beginning Thursday, were met with positive reviews in the clubhouse.

“I love them,” shortstop said. “I think they look clean. I think they did a great job with the uniforms and I think the fans are going to love them.”

The Astros will wear their City Connect 2.0 uniforms -- which kept with the space theme of the team's original City Connect uniforms -- for the first time on March 31 against the Giants at Daikin Park. They will wear them each Monday home game throughout the regular season. The Astros will also wear them during City Connect Weekend, April 11-13.

City Connect 2.0 merchandise will be available for sale inside Union Station at Daikin Park beginning at midnight Wednesday through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

“The players are excited,” Espada said. “I see they’re putting it on their social media. I really like that. I think the jerseys and the hats are going to be flying off the shelf here in a little bit. I like that it’s white, too. I liked the blue [City Connect] jersey, but the white looks clean … looks fresh. It looks really, really nice. I’ll be looking forward to wearing it on Monday.”

The wordmark of the jersey is an expression of the sleek and futuristic design of the uniform. For the first time, the nickname “Stros” will be displayed prominently across the chest of the jersey.

The trim and pinstriping for the City Connect 2.0 design showcases a lunar pattern that pays tribute to the history of the moon landing and the pursuit to return to the moon in the coming years. The rainbow gradient is a notable carryover from the City Connect version and is designed as a modern nod to the iconic “Tequila Sunrise” pattern.

The hat logo follows the futuristic direction of the jersey, combining several elements together to form a new take on the team’s star. At the core sits the broken star painted in rainbow gradient, with the star wrapped in a modified “A” (replacing the traditional “H.”) The “A” is inspired by concept art utilized throughout the team’s history.

“I like the letters,” utility player said. “Everything has good detail with the numbers. It’s modern with a little throwback, socks and everything. It’s my favorite one so far.”

Here are more features of the Astros City Connect 2.0 uniforms:

Hat logo: The inside of the hat features the pattern of Mars, along with the words, “The Next Frontier.” It is a nod to the next step in space exploration.

Neckline: The phrase “Space City” sits in the neckline on a lunar surface texture, combining the past with the future.

Mission patch: The patch takes its inspiration from the long-time Union Station logo that adorns the historical building next to Daikin Park.

Belt loop: HTX is stitched along the beltline to pay homage to Houston.

Afterburner socks: The orange socks feature a fiery mixture of orange and yellow that symbolize the afterburners of a rocket ship.

Jock tag: The jock tag captures a moment in history for Space City when President John F. Kennedy delivered his historic space travel speech on Sept. 12, 1962, at Rice University.
