LAS VEGAS -- The Astros have tabbed former big league pitcher Mickey Storey as their manager at Triple-A Round Rock beginning in 2019, a source told MLB.com. Storey, 32, spent last season as manager for Class A Quad Cities, going 81-59 in his first year as skipper.
The club has not confirmed the report.
Storey, 31, appeared in 29 Major League games, including 26 with the Astros in 2012. He appeared in three games for the Blue Jays in '13 and he retired after the '15 season. Storey made his coaching debut in '17 as a development coach at Class A Buies Creek before taking over as the manager at Quad Cities.
Astros president of baseball operations and general manager Jeff Luhnow said on Tuesday he expected to name his entire Minor League field staff in the next couple of weeks.
The club's Triple-A franchise will be in Round Rock, Texas, beginning in 2019. The Express, which is owned by Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan and Houston businessman Don Sanders, signed a four-year player development contract with the Astros in November.
Round Rock served as the Astros' Double-A affiliate from 2000-04 and then as its Triple-A affiliate from 2005-10. Houston's Triple-A affiliate had been in Fresno the previous four seasons (2015-18). The Express were founded as a Double-A franchise in 2000 by Ryan Sanders Baseball.
