OAKLAND -- Astros outfielder Carlos Gomez was out of the lineup for Sunday's 2-1 win in Oakland and will miss Monday's home series opener against the Minnesota Twins with a sore left rib cage. Gomez suffered the injury while diving for a ball in left-center during Friday night's game against the Athletics.
Gomez will be reevaluated Monday morning in Houston. X-rays taken in Oakland were negative.
"We're hoping to avoid the disabled list," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "That will be determined in the Twins series. If it lingers, we'll need to look for reinforcements, whether that means going with 12 pitchers or making another move."
Gomez has hit safely in seven of his last 11 games to push his average to .213 and went 4-for-13 with a RBI during the road trip.
"We'll get him to our facility and initiate some baseball activities," Hinch said.
Colby Rasmus was in center field on Sunday for the series finale in Oakland.
