HOUSTON -- Another day, another piece of hardware for Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, who joined teammate and World Series Most Valuable Player George Springer in being named winners of Silver Slugger Awards on Thursday.
Altuve won his fourth consecutive American League Silver Slugger at second base, and Springer is a first-time Silver Slugger winner in the outfield. There were eight first-time winners, while Altuve and Giants catcher Buster Posey (National League) won their fourth Silver Slugger Awards.
The Silver Slugger Awards presented by Louisville Slugger go to the top offensive players at each position in each league as selected in a vote by Major League Baseball's coaches and managers.

Altuve has already been named MLB's Player of the Year and the AL's Most Outstanding Player in the Players Choice Awards, which were revealed Wednesday. He's a finalist for the AL Most Valuable Player Award, which will be announced Nov. 16.

Altuve made the All-Star team for the fifth time this season and won his third career batting title, leading the Majors with a .346 batting average. He also hit 24 homers, had 81 RBIs and stole 32 bases in the regular season to lead the Astros to the AL West title.
With 204 hits, Altuve became the first player in Major League history to be the outright leader in hits in his league in four consecutive seasons, and he became the 11th player in MLB history to record 200 hits in four consecutive seasons. In the AL this season, he ranked first in infield hits, tied for second in runs (with Springer), was third in on-base percentage, third in stolen bases, third in OPS, fifth in total bases and sixth in slugging.

Altuve hit .421 in Interleague Play, .441 in close-and-late situations and .381 on the road, leading the Majors in all three of those categories.
Springer hit .283 with 34 homers, 85 RBIs and 112 runs scored and made his first All-Star team. All of his homers were from the leadoff spot in the lineup, which set a franchise record. Springer ranked among the top five for AL outfielders in runs (second), homers (fourth), on-base percentage (fifth), slugging percentage (sixth) and OPS (fifth).
