Mets add Caminero, Liriano on Minors deals
NEW YORK -- The Mets continued to flesh out their Spring Training roster with a pair of Minor League signings on Thursday, inking pitcher Arquimedes Caminero and outfielder Rymer Liriano to deals.
Caminero, 31, spent the past two seasons as the Yomiuri Giants' closer in the Japanese Central League, compiling 40 saves with a 3.18 ERA. Previously, he played parts of four seasons in the Majors for the Marlins, Pirates and Mariners. Caminero is coming off surgery on his right elbow, but he is currently healthy and pitching in the Dominican Winter League. The right-hander will battle for a spot in the Mets' bullpen.
Liriano, 27, is a former top prospect who owns a .220 career average in 59 games for the Padres and White Sox. He hit 20 home runs with 11 stolen bases in 102 games last year at Triple-A and will fight veterans Rajai Davis and Gregor Blanco for a job on New York's bench.
