The Angels on Friday signed their second-round pick from the 2016 Draft, athletic outfielder Brandon Marsh, giving him the full slot amount of $1,073,300, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis.
The Halos grabbed Marsh, a 6-foot-4 left-handed batter, with the 60th overall pick and their second of the Draft. Marsh, 18, was a two-sport star at Buford (Ga.) High School, where he also was a wide receiver in football before focusing solely on baseball in his senior year. He batted .559 this season and was named Georgia's Region 8-AAAA Player of the Year.
Although Marsh had a commitment to Kennesaw State University, he said after the Draft that he was certain he would sign with the Angels.
"He can run, he can throw, he hits the ball to all fields, he's going to develop into some power," Angels scouting director Ric Wilson has said of Marsh. "Just the raw tools that he has is really exciting, and the ceiling that he has is really high for us. That's what appealed to us most."
