Angels add Rengifo to complete Cron trade
The Angels and Rays have completed the trade that sent C.J. Cron to Tampa Bay last month. The Angels announced Tuesday that they have acquired infield prospect Luis Rengifo as the player to be named later in the deal.
The 21-year-old switch-hitter spent the 2017 season at Class A, split between the Rays and Mariners organizations. (Tampa Bay acquired Rengifo and two other Minor Leaguers for Mike Marjama and Ryan Garton on Aug. 6.) Rengifo played 125 games in total, hitting .250 with 12 home runs, 52 RBIs and 34 stolen bases.
Rengifo, who plays primarily shortstop and second base, was originally signed by the Mariners as an international free agent out of Venezuela in 2014.
Cron is set to start at first base for the Rays this season after spending his first four Major League seasons in Anaheim. The 28-year-old hit .248 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs in 100 games for the Angels last season.
