A-Rod on hand for Yanks-Sox London festivities
The Yankees and Red Sox won't take the field at London Stadium for more than seven months, but Alex Rodriguez was there Monday to help promote the historic two-game series.
The Mitel & MLB London Series will take place June 29-30, 2019, marking the first time Major League Baseball will play regular-season games in Europe.
"The atmosphere has been really good," Rodriguez said. "There's a buzz here. People are excited, anticipating a magnificent weekend next June. The fact that the NFL and NBA have been coming here so long, it was a natural fit."
Rodriguez, who is part of both the FOX Sports studio show and the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast booth, was the face of baseball across the pond on Monday as he visited London Stadium.
The 57,000-seat venue, originally built for the 2012 Summer Olympics, will be transformed into a baseball park for the first time next year. The Red Sox will be the home team for both games against the Yankees.
As part of his day, Rodriguez led a clinic for 30-40 teenagers, most of whom had never played baseball.
"I was trying to recruit some of them from soccer and cricket to baseball," he said. "We had a lot of fun. They were all rocking their Yankees and Red Sox gear. They were excited. They can't wait for June to get here."
