Giants land Alex Dickerson in trade with Padres
The San Francisco Giants announced Monday that they have acquired outfielder Alex Dickerson from the San Diego Padres in exchange for Minor League right-handed pitcher Franklin Van Gurp. Dickerson will report to Triple-A Sacramento.
Dickerson, 29, has spent the majority of this season at Triple-A El Paso, batting .372 (35-for-94) with five home runs, 20 RBI and a 1.075 OPS in 26 games. He had his contract purchased by the Padres in early May and appeared in 12 games with San Diego, going 3-for-19 with two RBI.
Drafted by the Pirates in the third round of the 2011 MLB Draft, Dickerson made his big league debut with San Diego in 2015 and has played parts of three seasons in the Majors, owning a career batting average of .250 with 16 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 39 RBI in 107 games.
Van Gurp, 23, has gone 2-1 with a 4.54 ERA (17er, 33.2ip) in 18 relief appearances between Class A Augusta and double-A Richmond this season. Van Gurp has spent the past three years in San Francisco’s minor league chain after being selected in the 25th round of the 2017 Draft.
