First '22 Players of the Week: Bregman, Arenado
There were plenty of scintillating performances during Opening Weekend, but Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado and Astros third baseman Alex Bregman stood above the rest and were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet on Monday.
Arenado emerged from Opening Weekend as the Major League leader in extra-base hits with five and RBIs with seven. He went 6-for-12 (.500) with two homers, three doubles and a 1.788 OPS over St. Louis’ first three games to earn National League Player of the Week honors.
Arenado has won seven NL Player of the Week Awards in total, but this is his first in a Cardinals uniform. He last won one in 2019, when he was still with the Rockies.
Bregman, meanwhile, has now won two American League Player of the Week Awards in his career. He earned the first AL Player of the Week Award of the 2022 season after hitting .429 (6-for-14) with two homers, six RBIs and a 1.286 OPS in Houston’s first four games.
