HOUSTON -- Alex Bregman’s 100th career homer couldn’t have come at a better time for the Astros.

The All-Star third baseman smashed a sinker on the first pitch he saw from Mariners starter Kendall Graveman and sailed it 389 feet over the left-field wall to give the Astros a 4-3 lead in the third inning of their 8-5 victory Monday night at Minute Maid Park. The three-run shot was his first home run of the season.

“It feels good because it helped us win the game today and it gave us the lead, but I’m definitely not satisfied with 100,” Bregman said.

Bregman, who last year hit a career-high 41 homers en route to a second-place finish in American League Most Valuable Player Award voting, becomes the 18th player in Astros history to reach 100 homers. It was his 521st career game.

The Astros entered the bottom of the third trailing, 3-0, before an error allowed Kyle Tucker to reach and a walk to Dustin Garneau set the table for Jose Altuve, who shot an RBI double to left for the 300th double of his career. Bregman sent the next pitch over the Crawford Boxes for a 4-3 lead.
