Alabama softball pitcher tosses six-inning perfecto

April 5th, 2022

A win over Georgia likely would have been enough for the University of Alabama softball team on Monday night. Junior Lexi Kilfoyl did them one better, tossing a perfect game.

In her six innings of work, Kilfoyl struck out 10 batters and threw just 69 pitches. Her masterpiece was capped off by a three-run home run off the bat of catcher Ally Shipman, which gave Alabama a 9-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth, triggering the NCAA's run rule.

This kind of thing is nothing new for Alabama softball -- before Monday, their most recent perfect game was Montana Fouts' from last season during the Women's College World Series. Kilfoyl's gem is the 41st no-hitter in program history and comes less than a week after her teammate, freshman Alex Salter, threw a five-inning no-hitter of her own.

On the season, Kilfoyl is 7-2 with a 1.49 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 68 2/3 innings.
