LOS ANGELES -- On the eve of the opening of Summer Camp, the Dodgers on Thursday added a veteran reliever by agreeing to a Minor League deal with right-hander AJ Ramos, according to a baseball source.

The club has not confirmed the agreement.

The former Marlins All-Star closer, 33, hasn’t pitched in the Major Leagues since May 2018, having undergone surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder during that season, when he had a 6.41 ERA and 1.627 WHIP with the Mets.

Ramos had 40 saves and a 2.81 ERA in 2016, when he went to the All-Star Game. He was selected by the Marlins out of Texas Tech in the 21st round of the 2009 MLB Draft. On Thursday he tweeted an inspirational workout video to mark his comeback bid.

Ramos will have to fight for a job in a bullpen headed by closer Kenley Jansen and fellow right-handers Joe Kelly, Pedro Báez, Blake Treinen, Ross Stripling, Brusdar Graterol, Dylan Floro, Dennis Santana, Tony Gonsolin, Jimmy Nelson and Dustin May, assuming all are healthy.

Lefties vying for jobs are Adam Kolarek, Scott Alexander and Caleb Ferguson.

Ramos was involved in a dustup with the Dodgers in 2017, when he allowed a home run to Cody Bellinger, then drilled the next batter, Brett Eibner, with a fastball to the ribs. Stripling retaliated, throwing behind Giancarlo Stanton, and benches cleared. Stripling, bench coach Bob Geren and Miami manager Don Mattingly were ejected.
