Sampson to pursue opportunity in KBO
ARLINGTON -- Right-handed pitcher Adrian Sampson has been put on unconditional waivers by the Rangers so that he can pursue a chance to play for the Lotte Giants in the Korea Baseball Organization.
Sampson made 15 starts and 20 relief appearances for the Rangers this past season and was third on the team with 125 1/3 innings pitched. Overall, he was 6-8 with a 5.89 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP.
His 15 starts were fourth on the Rangers. Lance Lynn led with 33 starts, followed by Mike Minor with 32 and Ariel Jurado with 18. Jurado’s final numbers were similar to Sampson's, as he finished 7-11 with a 5.81 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP.
Beyond those four, the Rangers did not have a pitcher who made at least 10 starts for them in 2019. Of their three rookie left-handed starters, Kolby Allard started nine games while Brock Burke started six and Joe Palumbo four.
The Rangers now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
