ARLINGTON -- No. 29 is going to be retired in Texas.
The Rangers announced on Friday night that they will retire Adrian Beltre's uniform number during ceremonies at a date in June, as part of the celebration of the final year of Globe Life Park. The announcement was made by former Rangers infielder Michael Young at the end of the Winter Warmup on Friday night at Texas Live!
Beltre wore No. 29 in his eight seasons with the Rangers before announcing his retirement in November.
Beltre, Elvis Andrus and their families were in London vacationing together. He was informed of the honor by phone from Rangers owner and co-chairman Ray Davis.
"The Rangers are proud and honored to make this announcement tonight," Davis said. "This franchise and its fans have the privilege of witnessing the last eight years of Adrian Beltre's Hall of Fame career on a daily basis. With 2019 being our final year at Globe Life Park in Arlington, we felt it was appropriate to retire Adrian's number in the park where he excelled for so long."

Beltre will be the fourth member of the Rangers to have his uniform retired, along with Nolan Ryan (34), Ivan Rodriguez (7) and former manager Johnny Oates (26). Ryan and Rodriguez have both been inducted into the Hall of Fame and went in as Rangers. The Rangers have also joined Major League Baseball in retiring the No. 42 of Jackie Robinson.
Beltre is an overwhelmingly strong candidate to be accorded that honor, as well, having spent eight of his 21 years in the Major Leagues with the Rangers. Overall his long list of accomplishments included 3,166 career hits, 477 home runs, five Gold Glove Awards and four All-Star appearances. The Rangers won three division titles and one American League pennant during Beltre's time in Arlington. He was honored four times as the Rangers Player of the Year.
Among third basemen, Beltre has few peers. In addition to being the only player at his position with both 3,000 career hits and 400 homers, he leads all third basemen in career hits and RBIs, and ranks third in home runs behind only Mike Schmidt (548) and Eddie Mathews (512).
