PHILADELPHIA -- The Phillies’ already depleted bullpen lost one more pitcher to injury Friday, and there is no timetable for his return.

Left-hander Adam Morgan (3-3, 3.94 ERA in 40 appearances) has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a strained left flexor tendon. It is the second time this season Morgan is on the IL with the injury, but Morgan said an MRI exam on Friday revealed that, “It kind of got worse.” He said he does not need a PRP injection or surgery, which at least leaves open the possibility that he can pitch again this season.

“Hopefully, I'll be back as soon as I can, but I can't promise anything,” Morgan said.

Morgan spent May 29-June 20 on the IL with the injury. He said this time he is not going to throw for at least a week. The longer he goes without throwing the longer he will need to rebuild his arm strength.

“I just don't know how long it's going to take for me to come back,” Morgan said. “But it is something that at this point could get worse so instead of being inflammation, there's a little more in there. So now we really need to relax and not take it slow, but be more cautious about it now and not try to push it to make it worse.”

Because closer Hector Neris is serving the second game of a three-game suspension Friday night against the White Sox, it leaves right-handers Zach Eflin, Mike Morin, Juan Nicasio, Blake Parker and Nick Pivetta; and left-handers José Álvarez and Ranger Suárez in the bullpen.

Morgan joins a long list of injured Phillies’ relievers. David Robertson is scheduled for season-ending right elbow surgery in the coming weeks. Tommy Hunter recently had season-ending right elbow surgery. Victor Arano had right elbow surgery in May -- his season is probably finished. Pat Neshek is not expected to rejoin the team until September because of a hamstring injury. Seranthony Dominguez is on the 60-day IL with a right elbow injury, although the Phillies hope he can return at some point this season. Edubray Ramos is on the 10-day IL with a right shoulder impingement. He could rejoin the bullpen this month.

Unfortunately for the Phillies, they are pretty much stuck with what they have. The league changed its Trade Deadline rules, abolishing the Aug. 31 deadline for one deadline on July 31. Players that have been on a Major League contract at any point in 2019 may not be traded until after the World Series. Players on a Minor League contract that have not been promoted can be traded, meaning if things continue to get worse the Phillies could try to find a Minor Leaguer that could help the bullpen.

The Phillies only acquired Morin and Parker before Wednesday’s Trade Deadline. They also moved struggling starters Pivetta and Eflin to the bullpen.

Dickerson is here

The Phillies added newly acquired outfielder Corey Dickerson to the 25-man roster. They got him Wednesday in a trade with the Pirates, but he was not in the lineup because he is nursing a groin injury.

“It's getting to the point where I'm pretty much good to go,” Dickerson said. “I just want to be safe and make sure I have no setbacks.”

Dickerson batted .315 with four homers, 25 RBIs and a .924 OPS in 44 games this season with the Pirates. He is batting .330 with a .982 OPS against righties. The Phillies seem to have a glut of left-handed-hitting outfielders in Dickerson, Jay Bruce, Adam Haseley and Brad Miller. Phillies manager Gabe Kapler said there is room for everybody, even when Bruce (strained right oblique) and Miller (strained right hip flexor) return from the IL.

“The cool thing about having this combination of Bruce, Haseley and Corey is that between the three of them we’re going to be able to matchup and give them opportunities to be good because we’ll always find one of them who can match-up good against a lefty,” Kapler said. “Haseley has a history of being good against lefties in the Minor Leagues, or at least neutral splits. Bruce has shown the ability to hit home runs and Corey is going to be in there against almost every righty.”
