BALTIMORE -- Adam Jones was not in Baltimore's starting lineup for Thursday's 4-2 win, as the center fielder is "a little sore in the rib-cage area," according to manager Buck Showalter, who didn't want to use the word oblique.
Jones apparently first felt the injury on his last at-bat in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Twins. The outfielder was bent over in pain for quite some time after striking out in the eighth inning, but he remained in the game.

"He wants to play, says he's fine and is probably not real happy with the old manager right now," Showalter said. "Just thought it would be smart to give him a day. The only time it was a challenge for him was the last at-bat."
"I know it wasn't batting practice [Wednesday], because there was no torque issues there. ... It kind of caught him a bit, some discomfort there in the rib-cage area. We hope to manage it today. I hope he's back in the lineup tomorrow."
There are no plans for tests right now, and Showalter said Jones is day to day. Rule 5 Draft pick Joey Rickard took Jones' place in center field on Thursday and batted leadoff.
Jones, who drove in the first two runs of the season on Monday, is a seasoned All-Star and one of the leaders in the Orioles' clubhouse. The O's are going to be cautious with the injury to make sure that it's not something Jones has to deal with all season.
"I'm hoping it's a one-day thing and [Jones is fine] tomorrow, but we are not going to take a chance with it on April 7," Showalter said.
