Jones hits 25th homer, sets Orioles record
Outfielder drills solo shot to center for his 250th career home run
BALTIMORE -- After claiming the all-time home run lead at Oriole Park earlier this season, Adam Jones set yet another Orioles' record in Monday's 7-6 win over the Mariners, logging his seventh consecutive 25-home run season.
In a heated American League Wild Card race, the Orioles picked up a much-needed insurance run off the bat of Jones in the fifth inning. He launched his 25th home run of the season, and the 250th of his career, a Statcast-projected 419 feet to help move the Orioles just 1 1/2 games back of the second AL Wild Card spot. Jones is hitting .354 with 12 RBIs over his last 16 games.
"I think he's one of those guys that everybody does appreciate because he does a lot of things other people can't do," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "Post up, through thick and thin there's a common denominator you can count on and that's Adam."
Cal Ripken Jr. previously held the Orioles' record with six consecutive seasons with at least 25 home runs from 1982-87.
"That's some select company," Showalter said. "I've said many times, you couldn't ask for a more consistent personality, a more consistent player. I know I appreciate him every day."
Jones' seven straight 25-plus home run seasons is the longest active streak in Major League Baseball. Both Edwin Encarnacion and Michael Trout have currently recorded six consecutive 25-plus home run seasons.
"It's pretty special. I think Jonesy -- our guys were just in there talking about it and he thought it was pretty funny," Orioles starter Chris Tillman said. "We can't ask for a better teammate and a better person on the field. The guy shows up every single day to play. As a teammate, that's all you can ask for."
