Judge hits 35th and savors every step, but Yanks' rally falls short

NEW YORK -- After watching Randy Arozarena and Jose Siri take their time rounding the bases earlier in the game, made sure to enjoy his trot after slugging his Major League-leading 35th home run on Sunday afternoon.

Yet Judge’s blast alone could not keep the Yankees from their 20th loss in 29 games, as Marcus Stroman served up a couple of early dingers in New York’s 6-4 loss to the Rays at Yankee Stadium.

After Siri appeared to irk the Yankees with a slow trot following his two-run homer off Jake Cousins in the seventh inning, Judge connected for a three-run homer facing Jason Adam in the home half of the frame, a Statcast-projected 444-foot blast to left field that came with Oswaldo Cabrera and Juan Soto on the basepaths.

The blast highlighted an afternoon that also included a single and a walk, coming after Judge had been held to nine hits in 41 at-bats (.220) over his previous 12 games, including two homers.

Judge’s 35 homers are six ahead of the Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani (29) among all big leaguers. The Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson (28) is second in the American League. Judge also paces the Majors in RBIs (89), among several other categories.
