A's to expand protective netting at ballparks
OAKLAND -- The A's on Tuesday became the latest club to comply with league-wide efforts to expand protective netting in 2018 and ensure further safety for fans.
Netting will expand at both the Coliseum and Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., where the A's host their Spring Training games,
"We are committed to delivering a great experience while also ensuring the safety of our fans," A's president Dave Kaval said in a statement. "The additional netting coverage is in line with the safety recommendations by Major League Baseball."
The netting at the Coliseum will extend to the far ends of both dugouts, stretching from Section 112 to 122 and mimicking the color of the grass to maintain a proper viewing experience.
The A's were one of the few remaining clubs to add netting in some capacity, with all 30 expected to do so before the start of the season.
