Free agent first baseman Chris Carter signed a deal to rejoin the A's, whom he played for from 2010-12. The club confirmed the signing on Friday.
Carter, who was released by the Yankees on July 11, will begin his second stint with Oakland at Triple-A Nashville. The Rangers were also among the teams reported to have interest in the 30-year-old slugger.
Carter led the National League last season with 41 home runs for the Brewers. He inked a one-year, $3.5-million deal to join the Yankees this winter, but struggled in 62 games. With New York, he batted just .201 with eight homers and his strikeouts (76) more than doubled his number of hits (37).
This move reunites Carter with the organization he broke into the big leagues with in 2010. Originally a 15th-round Draft selection by the White Sox, Carter was dealt from Chicago to Arizona to Oakland in a series of trades prior to the 2008 season. He's batting .217/.312/.456 with 158 home runs through eight seasons in the Majors.
