A's Select Eight Players on Day 2 of 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft

The Oakland Athletics selected eight players on the second day of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Rounds 3 to 10 were conducted today and the draft will conclude with rounds 11-40 tomorrow. The A's have selected 11 players combined in the first two days of the draft.

The Oakland Athletics selected eight players on the second day of the 2018 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Rounds 3 to 10 were conducted today and the draft will conclude with rounds 11-40 tomorrow. The A's have selected 11 players combined in the first two days of the draft.
In the first 10 rounds, the A's selected five pitchers (1 LHP and 4 RHP), one catcher, two infielders and three outfielders.

3rd Round:
Hogan Harris, 21, was 5-2 with a 2.62 ERA (17 ER, 58.1 IP) with 54 strikeouts in 12 games, including 4 starts with the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. In three seasons with the Ragin Cajuns, the left-hander combined to go 12-4 with a 2.87 ERA (49 ER, 58.1 IP) with 167 strikeouts in 41 games, including 25 starts. Prior to his collegiate career, he was named both a Perfect Game All-American and a Louisville Slugger All-American. He ranked as the №1 player out of high school in the state of Louisiana in 2015, and the №5 left-handed pitcher nationally by Perfect Game. He received all-state and all-district honors from 2013-15 and went 6-1 with five shutouts, one save and a 0.67 ERA in his senior season.
4th Round:
Alfonso Rivas, 21 (22 on Sept. 13), was named to the All-Pac 12 Team after leading the Wildcats in hitting at .342 this season, starting all 56 games. He hit a career-high 15 doubles to go with three triples, seven home runs and 52 RBI. He finished ninth in the Pac-12 in RBI. The junior from San Diego led the Wildcats with 21 multiple-hit games and 13 multiple-RBI contests. Prior to his collegiate career, he played his high school ball at La Jolla Country Day in La Jolla, Calif. He was a two-time All-CIF First Team selection, a two-time All-Coastal League First Team selection and was also a two-time All-Coastal League second team selection.
5th Round:
Brady Feigl, 22, was 8-5 with a 4.03 ERA (41 ER, 91.2 IP) with 93 strikeouts in 16 starts for the Rebels this season. He redshirted during 2015 due to Tommy John Surgery and then compiled a 14-7, 3.98 ERA (82 ER, 185.1 IP) with 186 strikeouts in 59 games including 22 starts. Prior to his collegiate career, he lettered four years at Parkway Central High School and won the district championship his senior year. He was named second team all-conference as a DH and competed in the Under Armour Futures Game.
6th Round:
Lawrence Butler, 17 (18 on July 10), is the №1-ranked first basemen in the state of Georgia and №6 nationally by Perfect Game, while he is ranked the №28 overall player in the state. He was named a Perfect Game Underclass Third Team All-American in 2017. During his senior season, he hit .507 (38-for-75) with 3 doubles and 5 home runs.
7th Round:
Charles Cerny, 21 (22 on Sept. 23), was 5-3 with a 1.63 ERA (10 ER, 55.1 IP) with 64 strikeouts in 21 games, including 5 starts for the University of Illinois - Chicago. In three seasons for the Flames, the right-hander was 6-6 with a 3.81 ERA (44 ER, 104.0 IP) with 96 strikeouts in 58 games, including 7 starts. At Bloomington (Ill.) High School he earned First Team All-Conference honors and was a three-year letter winner in baseball.
8th Round:
JJ Schwarz, 22, was named to the All-SEC First Team after hitting .325 (66-for-203) with 50 runs, 16 doubles, 2 triples, 12 home runs, 46 RBI and a .601 slugging mark in 55 games with the Florida Gators this season. In four seasons with the University of Florida, the catcher has hit .300 (291-for-970) with 200 runs, 59 doubles, 8 triples, 49 home runs and 235 RBI in 262 games.
9th Round:
Chase Cohen, 21, was 5-5 with a 4.40 ERA (23 ER, 47.0 IP) with 60 strikeouts in 18 games, including 4 starts in 2018 with Georgia Southern University. In three seasons with the Eagles, he combined to go 13-11 with a 3.89 ERA (84 ER, 194.1 IP) with 201 strikeouts in 52 games, including 35 starts. Prior to his collegiate career, he played at Alpharetta High School in Alpharetta, Georgia where he was named All-Region as a junior and a senior. During his senior season, he posted more than 50 strikeouts and a 0.38 ERA.
10th Round:
Clark Cota, 21 (22 on Oct. 6), was a 2018 All-CAA First-Team selection after going 4-0 with a 2.04 ERA (8 ER, 35.1 IP) with 47 strikeouts in 27 relief appearances with UNC Wilmington. He led the Seahawk bullpen and CAA with a career-high 13 saves, tying UNCW's single season record while striking out 11.97 batters per 9.0 innings. In three seasons at UNCW, he was 6-1 with a 2.51 ERA (16 ER, 57.1 IP) with 74 strikeouts in 45 relief appearances. Prior to his collegiate career, he helped Topsail High School to 2013 3A State Championship and 4A title in 2014 . He was a four-time All-conference selection in the Mid-Eastern and East Coast Conferences and three-time All-State honoree. He was named Baseball America Preseason All-America in 2014.
DAY ONE OF MLB FIRST-YEAR PLAYER DRAFT:
The Athletics selected Kyler Murray with the 9th overall pick in the first round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft, OF Jameson Hannah with the 50th overall pick in the second round, and SS Jeremy Eierman with the 70th overall pick in Competitive Balance Round B.
Murray, 20 (21 on Aug. 7), hit .296 (56-for-189) with 46 runs, 13 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs, 47 RBI, a .398 on-base percentage, and a .556 slugging mark in 51 games with the University of Oklahoma during the 2018 season. For more info on Murray, see attached release.
Hannah, 20, hit .363 (91-for-251) with 65 runs, 24 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs, 48 RBI and a .554 slugging mark in 59 games with Dallas Baptist during the 2018 season.
Hannah has been a two-time First Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and was selected to the All-MVC Defensive Team all three years. The Patriots' junior center fielder was also a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American in 2016 and was tabbed the MVC Co-Freshman of the Year.
Over three seasons at DBU, he hit .341 (243-for-712) with 174 runs, 51 doubles, 9 triples, 19 home runs and 123 RBI in 176 games. His 243 career hits are the sixth most all-time in the program's NCAA Division I era dating back to 2004. He also ranks seventh in doubles (51), eighth in runs (174), and ninth in stolen bases (29) and base on balls (93).
During the 2016 summer season, the left-handed outfielder played 38 games for the Savannah Bananas out of the Coastal Plain League, where he hit .374 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 home runs, while collecting 37 RBI and stealing 11 bases. The following summer, he hit .265 with 7 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run with the Bourne Braves out of the Cape Cod League.
Prior to his college career, Hannah was a two-year letter winner at Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, TX earning First Team All-District honors and nabbed a Texas Region All American Honorable Mention Selection by Perfect Game.
Eierman, 21, hit .287 (64-for-223) with 48 runs, 17 doubles, 2 triples, 10 home runs, 49 RBI, a .379 on-base percentage, and a .516 slugging mark in 56 games with Missouri State during the 2018 season.
He was a consensus preseason All-America choice this spring, and earned All-MVC honors for a second-straight year. The Warsaw, Mo., native became the Bears' first 40-40 club member with 43 stolen bases and 42 home runs for his MSU career.
Eierman is a two-time All-America selection, earning first-team honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, D1Baseball.com and Perfect Game USA after the 2017 season. He became the third Bear in the last six seasons to be named the NCBWA's District VI most outstanding player and was a finalist for the Brooks Wallace Award honoring the nation's top shortstop, as well as a semifinalist for the NCBWA's Dick Howser Trophy.
His father, John Eierman, was an outfielder in the Boston Red Sox organization. His brother, Johnny Eierman was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 3rd round of the 2011 draft.
The Draft will resume on Wednesday, June 6th and will begin at 12:00 p.m. (ET), featuring picks in rounds 11-40, with no time delay between selections.
