Here are the standouts from Day 2 of the 2024 Draft Combine

June 20th, 2024

PHOENIX -- Pro-style workouts continued on Day 2 of the 2024 Draft Combine, with position players taking batting practice and infield and pitchers throwing from the mound at Chase Field. While most of the top-ranked participants showed their stuff on the first day, several intriguing prospects stood out Wednesday:

Brandon Clarke, LHP, State JC of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (No. 177 on MLB Pipeline's Draft Top 200)
The top junior college prospect in the Draft, Clarke features some of the best arm strength among available left-handers. He sat at 96 mph and had the highest peak velocity of any southpaw at the Combine on either workout day at 98. He also threw some upper-80s changeups with mild fade for strikes while struggling to locate his upper-70s curveball.

Dennis Colleran, RHP, Northeastern (unranked)
Colleran had trouble harnessing his stuff while running his fastball up to 100 mph this spring, posting a 7.97 ERA at Northeastern. He showed off his premium arm strength at the combine, throwing the three hardest pitches of Day 2, topping out at 99.2 mph and averaging 98.1. He also averaged 90.7 with a trio of cutters.

Hunter Hines, 1B, Mississippi State (No. 174)
Hines led the Cape Cod League with 13 homers last summer and ranked fourth all-time at Mississippi State with 54 in three seasons, though his stock dipped when he slumped through his junior season. His power was on display again in the morning on Day 2, when he smashed five 400-foot blasts, including the longest of the session at 441.7 feet. His peak exit velocity of 111.4 mph ranked sixth.

Brock Moore, RHP, Oregon (UR)
A reliever who hit 101 mph this spring, Moore topped out at 98.1 mph and averaged 97.1 mph with his fastball in Phoenix, registering three of the nine hardest pitches. He worked in some mid-80s sliders but struggled to land them for strikes.

Joseph Sullivan, OF, South Alabama (UR)
The son of 1971 Heisman Trophy winner Patrick Sullivan, Joseph is more of a speedy center fielder than a slugger. But he produced three of the 10 best exit velocities (his high of 111.9 mph ranked fourth) and two of the top eight longest drives (including a long ball of 427.1 feet that placed sixth).

Cade Townsend, RHP, Santa Margarita HS, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. (No. 150)
Townsend registered six of the nine highest spin rates, including the two best at 3,265 and 3,132 rpm, though his curveball and slider broke so much that he had difficulty placing them in the strike zone. He also ran his fastball up to 96.6 mph.
