LATEST NEWS
July 25: With the Twins coming to terms with the No. 5 overall pick, Walker Jenkins, all first-round, PPI and CB-A picks have agreed to a deal.

First Round

1. Pirates: Paul Skenes, RHP, LSU
Pick value $9,721,000
Signing bonus: $9,200,000
With a signing bonus of $9.2 million, Skenes overtakes Spencer Torkelson ($8,416,300) for possession of the largest bonus in MLB Draft history. Given what Skenes accomplished at LSU, it's money well-earned. In his one and only season with the Tigers, Skenes eschewed his two-way responsibilities from his time at Air Force and dominated opposing hitting, posting a 1.69 ERA across 122 2/3 innings with 209 strikeouts, earning a laundry list of awards and honors en route to winning a national championship.

Pick value: $6,634,000
Signing bonus: $5,500,000
The A's gained some bonus pool flexibility by signing Wilson under slot value. The son of former Major League All-Star Jack Wilson, Jacob is considered to have the best bat-to-ball skills of any player in this year's Draft class. The 21-year-old's defense also stood out, as Wilson earned WAC Defensive Player of the Year honors this season at Grand Canyon University.

7. Reds: Rhett Lowder, RHP, Wake Forest
Pick value: $6,275,200
Signing bonus: $5,700,000

Lowder signed for nearly $600,000 under his slot value on July 14. He just finished his junior year at Wake Forest, where he set single-season records for wins (15) and strikeouts (143). His 15 wins were the most in Division I, while the 143 strikeouts were fourth most. Lowder also had a 1.83 ERA and a 6.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio (143 K, 24 BB) in 120 1/3 innings.

9. Rockies: Chase Dollander, RHP, Tennessee
Pick value: $5,716,900
Signing bonus: $5,716,900
Rockies senior director of scouting operations Marc Gustafson expected the Draft to be strong at the top with position players, and six of the teams in front of Colorado took hitters. But that meant one of the most talented pitchers in collegiate ball landed in the hands of the Rockies, who traditionally stock up on pitchers. "It was his body of work, our history with him, the hours of scouting him not only this year but even during his freshman year [at Georgia Southern before he transferred],” Gustafson said. “Then you combine that with his body, size, strength, stuff and athleticism and he checks all the boxes.”Rockies Draft signing tracker »

12. D-backs: Tommy Troy, SS, Stanford
Pick value $5,043,800
Signing bonus: $4,400,000
Troy is a polished college hitter who has a good feel for the strike zone, has good bat-to-ball skills and can really impact the baseball. Troy spent most of this past season playing third base for Stanford, but he played shortstop there as well, and that’s where the D-backs plan to start him out. He agreed to terms July 17.

13. Cubs: Matt Shaw, SS, Maryland
Pick value: $4,848,500
Signing bonus: $4,848,500

The Cubs signed Shaw to his slot value, adding a dynamic shortstop with plus power and plate discipline potential. The Big Ten Player of the Year, Shaw hit .341/.445/.697 with 24 homers, 69 RBIs, 18 steals and more walks (43) than strikeouts (42) in 62 games as a junior. He also led Bourne to the Cape Cod League title after hitting .360/.432/.574 in 36 games.

15. White Sox: Jacob Gonzalez, SS, Ole Miss
Pick value: $4,488,600

Signing bonus: $3,900,000
Gonzalez, one of three players selected by the White Sox in the past two years from Ole Miss' national championship team in 2022, came in slightly under slot value. White Sox director of amateur scouting Mike Shirley was thrilled Gonzalez was available at No. 15 overall, with Gonzalez possessing top-five ability. The expectation is he will stay at shortstop.

"It's elite hand-eye coordination," Shirley said of Gonzalez. "His swing rate is in the right zone, chase rate is right. Doesn’t swing-and-miss or strike out. It was impressive how he has the ability to touch a ball and get the contact. His ability to be in an awkward position and still get contact and power, they are unique."

16. Giants: Bryce Eldridge, TWP, James Madison HS (VA)
Pick value $4,326,600
Signing bonus: $3,997,500

Eldridge was the highest selected of eight two-way players in this year's MLB Draft. MLB Pipeline's No. 23 Draft prospect this year, he can reach 96 with his fastball and complements it with a strong slider and changeup. On the other side of the ball, he has raw power and strong first base defense. His athleticism could help him move around the diamond.

17. Orioles: Enrique Bradfield Jr., OF, Vanderbilt
Pick value: $4,169,700

Signing bonus: $4,169,700
Bradfield signed with the Orioles on July 17, as announced by the team. The 21-year-old agreed to the exact slot amount of $4,169,700, per MLB.com's Jim Callis. Bradfield was the third left-handed-hitting outfielder taken by Baltimore in the first round of the Draft over the past four years, joining Heston Kjerstad and Colton Cowser.

18. Brewers: Brock Wilken, 3B, Wake Forest
Pick value: $4,021,400

Signing bonus: $3,150,000
Wilken's selection continued the Brewers' four-year streak of using their top pick to take a college bat, but he's different than those who came before him in that he's a third baseman and a power hitter, coming off a school-record 31 home runs in his junior season at Wake Forest. His plus throwing arm means that right field could be an option if the Brewers elect to expand his defensive versatility, but right now the club is highly confident he'll stick at third base.

"He has an energetic personality and is obviously a very large human as well," Brewers scouting director Tod Johnson said when the 6-foot-4 Wilken signed July 17. "It's going to be fun. It's a little different profile, more of a power guy, but he has developed the hit tool and is starting to get more contact and more consistent with his swing decisions over the last year. That starts to get very dangerous when you put that together."

19. Rays: Brayden Taylor, SS, TCU
Pick value $3,880,100

Signing bonus: $3,877,600
The Rays officially announced the signing of their first-round pick on Friday. Taylor will receive the full slot value of his selection, MLB.com's Jim Callis reported, after setting single-season (23) and career (48) home run records at TCU this spring. Described by director of amateur scouting Chuck Ricci as “very much a Rays player, very well-balanced,” the left-handed-hitting infielder played mostly third base at TCU but should get a chance to play shortstop in the Rays' system.

20. Blue Jays: Arjun Nimmala, SS, Strawberry Crest HS (FL)
Pick value $3,746,000

Signing bonus: $3,000,000
The Blue Jays were thrilled to land Nimmala's talent where they did, and by saving nearly $750,000 against the slot value, this allows them to be more aggressive elsewhere with signings. Nimmala brings serious power potential, especially for his age and position, and should benefit from the Blue Jays' new player development complex as much as anyone. With the potential to be the first player of Indian descent in the history of Major League Baseball, Nimmala immediately becomes one of the most interesting -- and talented -- young players in the Blue Jays organization.

21. Cardinals: Chase Davis, OF, Arizona
Pick value $3,618,200
Signing bonus: $3,618,200

The tooled-up outfielder, who hit 21 home runs while hitting .362 as a junior at Arizona this past season, formally introduced his big lefty power to St. Louis when he took batting practice July 15 at Busch Stadium, smashing a handful of long balls into the empty seats between games of the split doubleheader between the Cardinals and Nationals.

22. Mariners: Colt Emerson, SS, John Glenn HS (OH)
Pick value: $3,496,600
Signing bonus: $3,800,000

As expected, the Mariners went over-slot to bring in the high-school bat, who was committed to Auburn University, like they did last year when selecting Cole Young, another lefty-swinging shortstop. An average runner with solid arm strength, Emerson is a steady defender at shortstop but probably will move to a different position in pro ball.

23. Guardians: Ralphy Velazquez, C, Huntington Beach HS (CA)
Pick value: $3,380,900

Signing bonus: $2,500,000
The Guardians aren't quite sure if Velazquez will stick behind the plate or will see more time at the corner infield spots. All the team knows is that he will figure out where he belongs defensively in the Guardians' organization. He was officially signed by the team on July 22 and will bring an exciting bat into Cleveland's farm system. The left-handed hitter has shown the ability to hit for both power and average, while his arm strength dazzles on the other side of the ball.

24. Braves: Hurston Waldrep, RHP, Florida
Pick value: $3,270,500
Signing bonus: $2,997,500

As reported by Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline on Thursday, the Braves struck quickly by coming to terms with their first two selections just four days after making them Day 1 picks. Atlanta came to an agreement with Waldrep for $273,000 under slot, and it was able to use that savings on second-rounder Drue Hackenburg, who agreed to terms on a bonus that is $628,200 over slot.

25. Padres: Dillon Head, OF, Homewood Flossmoor HS (IL)
Pick value $3,165,400
Signing bonus: $2,800,000

The Padres signed Head under his slot value, which ultimately proved useful in agreeing with some later-round picks. But this was no cost-savings move. San Diego is enamored with Head's upside as a speedy outfielder with excellent bat-to-ball skills and some "sneaky juice in there offensively."

26. Yankees: George Lombard Jr., SS, Gulliver Prep (FL)
Pick value $3,065,000

Lombard Jr. was at George M. The infielder is the son of former Major Leaguer and current Tigers bench coach George Lombard.

27. Phillies: Aidan Miller, SS, J.W. Mitchell HS (FL)
Pick value: $2,968,800

Signing bonus:$3,100,800
Miller missed almost his entire senior season after he broke the hamate bone in his left hand in his first at-bat of the year at J.W. Mitchell High School. But Miller is healthy and ready to play.

“The big attraction with Aidan is the bat,” Phillies amateur scouting director Brian Barber said. “He was just one of the best hitters in the country that we saw. It’s a combination of hit and power, there’s strength, there’s ability to hit the ball hard, there’s bat-to-ball skills. It’s just a guy that we walked away from last year and we just absolutely loved the bat.”

Matthews hit .359/.481/.723 with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases over 54 games in a breakout year at Nebraska, putting up impressive exit velocities along the way. The shortstop features excellent athleticism -- he was an all-state quarterback in Texas as a prepster.

29. Mariners: Jonny Farmelo, OF, Westfield HS (VA)
Pick value: $2,800,700

33. Brewers: Josh Knoth, RHP, Patchogue Medford HS (NY)
Pick value: $2,543,800

Signing bonus: $2,000,000
Like first-round pick Brock Wilken, Knoth represented a break from the Brewers' recent tradition of using their first-round picks on up-the-middle defenders and college arms. He's not only a prep arm (from the same school that produced current Cubs right-hander Marcus Stroman) but at 17 he was one of the youngest players eligible in this year's Draft. Knoth signed July 17 and headed to the club's complex in Arizona, where he probably will continue to build a foundation at the start of next season before advancing to Low-A Carolina.
