The MLB Futures Game during All-Star weekend is the premier showcase event for the stars of tomorrow to give us a glimpse of things to come. And while the 2018 game was a slugfest, the 2019 contest was the opposite. There wasn't a hit for either the National League squad or the American League squad until the fourth inning.

But there were fireworks late, with a game-tying home run and an extra inning before the game ended in a 2-2 tie. Here's a look at how the prospects from each team did Sunday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

ANGELS - Jo Adell, OF, LAA No. 1 | MLB No. 4: Adell led both teams by reaching base three times, walking twice before singling and scoring a run on Sam Huff’s game-tying homer in the bottom of the seventh. In the top of the eighth, he made a diving catch in right field with a runner on second, helping keep the NL off the board in a tie game. The NL finally retired him when it mattered most, however, as Adell struck out swinging to end the game with the potential winning run on second base. He was also picked off earlier in the game.

ATHLETICS - Jorge Mateo, SS, OAK No. 8: Mateo provided a spark off the bench with a single in his first at-bat, although he wasn’t able to bring home the game-winning run from second base in the bottom of the eighth, flying out to center in his second plate appearance.

BLUE JAYS - Nate Pearson, RHP, TOR No. 2 | MLB No. 41: Pearson was dominant during his relief appearance, striking out two of the three batters he faced in a scoreless top of the fifth.

INDIANS - Nolan Jones, 3B, CLE No. 2 | MLB No. 43: Jones led off the bottom of the third but wasn’t able to start a rally, grounding out to the pitcher in his only at-bat. Daniel Johnson, OF, CLE No. 22: Johnson showed off his aggressiveness by swinging at the first pitch he saw, grounding out to shortstop in his lone plate appearance.

MARINERS - Jarred Kelenic, OF, SEA No. 1 | MLB No. 24: Kelenic hit the ball hard in all three of his at-bats but didn’t get any hits to show for it, lining out twice and flying out in his other plate appearance. Justin Dunn, RHP, SEA No. 2 | MLB No. 67: Dunn followed up Deivi Garcia’s strong start with a scoreless second inning, which was highlighted by his strikeout of Reds No. 1 prospect/MLB No. 27 prospect Taylor Trammell. Dunn did hit Pirates No. 12 prospect Will Craig with two outs, but recovered to retire Cardinals No. 2 prospect Dylan Carson on a flyout to center. Evan White, 1B, SEA No. 5 | MLB No. 81: White made good contact in his lone at-bat, scorching a line drive to left that was gloved by Trammell to end the bottom of the second.

ORIOLES - Grayson Rodriguez, RHP, BAL No. 1 | MLB No. 53: With the score knotted at 2-2 after seven innings, Rodriguez was summoned to pitch the “extra” inning in the top of the eighth. Despite starting the frame with a runner already on second base, Rodriguez retired all three batters he faced to keep the game tied. DL Hall, LHP, BAL No. 3 | MLB No. 66: Hall breezed through the top of the third on 12 pitches, inducing a popout, a groundout and a flyout from the three batters he faced to keep the score tied at 0-0.

RANGERS - Sam Huff, C/1B, TEX No. 21: With the AL down to its last two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Huff stepped up and belted a game-tying two-run homer off Rockies No. 16 prospect Ben Bowden to force extra innings and prevent an AL loss. Huff was named Futures Game MVP for his efforts.

RAYS - Wander Franco, SS, TB No. 1 | MLB No. 1: Franco bounced back after being called out on strikes in his first at-bat, roping a single to right in his second at-bat for the American League’s first hit. He was then caught stealing second, however. Ronaldo Hernandez, C, TB No. 7 | MLB No. 80: Hernandez had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh with two runners on and only one out, but he wasn’t able to put the ball in play and struck out. He popped out in his previous plate appearance.

RED SOX - Jarren Duran, OF, BOS No. 9: Duran grounded out in his first at-bat off the bench but nearly helped win the game for the AL in the bottom of the seventh, singling to advance Isaac Paredes to third with one out and the game tied at 2-2. Duran proceeded to steal second -- the only successful stolen base attempt by either side -- but was stranded there when the next two batters struck out.

ROYALS - Brady Singer, RHP, KC No. 1 | MLB No. 45: Singer got himself into some hot water in the top of the sixth after walking the leadoff batter and yielding a one-out single to Giants No. 2 prospect/MLB No. 56 prospect Heliot Ramos. The righty quickly regained his composure, however, striking out the next two batters he faced to strand both baserunners. Kris Bubic, LHP, KC No. 8: Bubic entered the game to a one-out, bases-loaded jam left behind in the top of the fourth, with the AL trailing 1-0. He was greeted by an RBI single from Carson that reloaded the bases, but quickly settled down to strike out D-backs No. 4 prospect Daulton Varsho. Bubic ended the frame in dramatic fashion by catching Trammell stealing home to get out of the jam and limit the damage to just one run.

TIGERS - Matt Manning, RHP, DET No. 2 | MLB No. 32: The NL offense finally woke up in the fourth against Manning, who was unable to dig himself out of trouble after yielding a leadoff single to Nationals No. 1 prospect/MLB No. 21 prospect Carter Kieboom. After inducing a soft groundout back to the pitcher’s mound, Manning allowed back-to-back singles that brought home the game’s first run. He was pulled from the game after plunking Craig to load the bases, and was charged with a second run when Kris Bubic allowed one of the inherited runners to score. Isaac Paredes, 3B, DET No. 4 | MLB No. 83: Paredes followed Huff’s game-tying homer in the bottom of the seventh with a ringing double to center, putting himself in position to score the game’s winning run. He advanced to third on Duran’s single, but was stranded there when the next two batters struck out to end the frame. Jake Rogers, C, DET No. 12: Rogers worked the count to 2-2 against Dodgers No. 3 prospect/MLB No. 51 prospect Dustin May before grounding out to shortstop to end the bottom of the third.

TWINS - Royce Lewis, SS, MIN No. 1 | MLB No. 7: Lewis made an instant impact off the bench with his bat by singling in his first plate appearance, although he did commit a fielding error in the top of the seventh. With two outs and two on in the bottom of the seventh, Lewis struck out swinging to end the frame, sending the game into extras. Jordan Balazovic, RHP, MIN No. 5 | MLB No. 100: Balazovic pitched a smooth top of the seventh, retiring the first two batters he faced on a popout and a groundout. After Braves No. 1/MLB No. 14 prospect Cristian Pache reached on a fielding error, the righty caught him stealing second to end the frame.

WHITE SOX - Luis Robert, OF, CWS No. 1 | MLB No. 5: Robert kept making solid contact and put the ball in play three times, but ended up with a groundout and two flyouts. He struck out in his other plate appearance. Nick Madrigal, 2B, CWS No. 4 | MLB No. 39: Madrigal showed off his contact skills by getting the bat on the ball in both of his at-bats, although both ended in groundouts.

YANKEES - Deivi Garcia, RHP, NYY No. 4: Garcia started strong for the AL, striking out the first batter of the game (Pache) on called strikes to kick-start a 1-2-3 first inning.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

BRAVES - Cristian Pache, CF, ATL No. 1 | MLB No. 14: Pache was 0-for-4 and reached on a fielding error in the seventh inning. He was also caught stealing in that frame. Ian Anderson, RHP, ATL No. 3 | MLB No. 26: Anderson started and pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, striking out Franco looking on a 95.2 mph fastball to open the game.

BREWERS - Devin Williams, RHP: Williams entered the game in the fifth inning with two outs and a runner on second base. He got Isaac Paredes to fly out and end the threat.

CARDINALS - Nolan Gorman, 3B, STL No. 1 | MLB No. 30: Gorman came in as a pinch-runner for Will Craig in the fourth inning. He went 0-for-1 with a strikeout looking. Dylan Carlson, RF, STL No. 2 | MLB No. 88: Carlson drove in the NL team’s second run with a fourth-inning RBI single to left field that brought in Alec Bohm.

CUBS - Miguel Amaya, C, CHC No. 2 | MLB No. 76: Amaya grounded out to shortstop in the third inning before being replaced behind the plate by Bart an inning later.

D-BACKS - Daulton Varsho, DH, ARI No. 4: Varsho went 0-for-3 with a strikeout and a pair of popouts, one leading off the third and the other leading off the seventh. Alek Thomas, LF, ARI No. 7: Thomas entered the game in the fourth as a pinch-runner for Carlson, and went 0-for-1 with a strikeout in the sixth with runners at first and second.

DODGERS - Gavin Lux, SS, LAD No. 2 | MLB No. 31: After coming in as a pinch-runner in the fourth, Lux got two at-bats in the game, striking out in the sixth and grounding out in the seventh. Dustin May, RHP, LAD No. 3 | MLB No. 51: May took the mound in the third inning and induced three groundouts, one back to him and two to shortstop. His four-seam fastball touched 98 mph.

GIANTS - Joey Bart, C, SF No. 1 | MLB No. 19: Bart came into the game in the fourth inning and, though he went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a ground out, he made his presence felt defensively by throwing out Wander Franco trying to steal second base in the fourth. According to Statcast, Bart’s pop time was 1.97 seconds (MLB average is 2.01) and arm strength was 84.5 mph. Heliot Ramos, CF, SF No. 2 | MLB No. 56: Ramos entered the game in place of Taylor Trammell in the fourth, and in his only plate appearance, singled up the middle in the sixth before being stranded at second base.

MARLINS - Sixto Sanchez, RHP, MIA No. 1 | MLB No. 22: Sanchez yielded a Jo Adell leadoff single in the sixth inning, but recovered to get Kelenic to fly out and Huff to ground out to short before being relieved by Williams, who got out of the jam with a Paredes flyout to center. Isan Diaz, 2B, MIA No. 6: Diaz went hitless with a walk in four plate appearances, but showed his defensive range on a nice play in the fourth inning. Madrigal chopped a ball over the middle and Diaz cut across the bag at second base, throwing across his body to first to get the speedy runner, whose sprint speed, according to Statcast, was 30.1 feet per second. A sprint speed of 30.0 feet per second is considered elite.

METS - Anthony Kay, LHP, NYM No. 3 | MLB No. 95: Kay took the mound in the fourth inning and after giving up a leadoff single to Franco, who was subsequently thrown out trying to steal second, the left-hander got Madrigal to ground out before striking out Robert swinging on a 95.8 mph fastball.

NATIONALS - Carter Kieboom, SS, WSH No. 1 | MLB No. 21: Kieboom opened the fourth inning with the first hit of the game for either side, a line drive up the middle against Manning. He eventually scored the game’s first run on Trammell’s RBI single.

PADRES - MacKenzie Gore, LHP, SD No. 1 | MLB No. 3: Gore entered in the second inning, issuing a leadoff walk to Adell before picking him off trying to steal second base. He then got Kelenic and White to line out to shortstop and left field, respectively. Luis Patiño, RHP, SD No. 3 | MLB No. 40: Patiño impressed over 1 2/3 innings, coming on with one out in the seventh and throwing his last pitch to get the final out of the eighth to preserve a 2-2 tie. With Lewis beginning the inning at second base, Patiño unleashed a 98.2 mph fastball to strike out Adell, one of three strikeouts on the night for the right-hander. Adrian Morejon, LHP, SD No. 4 | MLB No. 49: Though he retired the first two batters he faced in the sixth inning on a groundout and popout, Morejon got himself into a jam by giving up singles to Lewis and Mateo. He then uncorked a wild pitch that moved the runners up to second and third. But he got Robert to fly out to center to escape unscathed in what was then a 2-0 game in favor of the NL squad.

PHILLIES - Alec Bohm, 3B, PHI No. 1 | MLB No. 38: Bohm contributed to the two-run NL rally in the fourth by singling to left and moving Kieboom to third. Kieboom eventually scored the first run of the game. It was the only hit for Bohm on a 1-for-4 night, but he scored the NL’s second run later in the frame on Carlson’s RBI single. Bohm’s other at-bats resulted in a pair of groundouts to second and a lineout to right.

PIRATES - Will Craig, 1B, PIT No. 12: Craig had two plate appearance in the game, and was hit by a pitch both times, once in the second inning and once in the fourth before Gorman pinch-ran for him.

REDS - Taylor Trammell, LF, CIN No. 1 | MLB No. 27: Trammell drove in the game’s first run with an RBI single to left field that scored Kieboom. And in a daring move, the 2018 Futures Game MVP tried a straight steal of home, and on a very close play was called out.

ROCKIES - Ben Bowden, LHP, COL No. 16: Bowden came into the game to try and close it out in the seventh, but walked Adell before surrendering Huff’s two-run, game-tying homer two batters later. He was then relieved by Patiño.
