Angels defeat Red Sox, 3 games to 0
The Angels' starting pitching took control in Games 1 and 2 of the series before the offense helped hold on in a dramatic 7-6 win to clinch the sweep in Game 3.
John Lackey threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings to start Game 1, then Jered Weaver followed with 7 1/3 frames of one-run ball in Game 2.
Boston led Game 3 at Fenway Park, 5-2, entering the eighth inning before the Angels scored twice. Boston tacked on one more in the bottom half, but a three-run Anaheim ninth was the difference. Angels outfielder Bobby Abreu and DH Vladimir Guerrero had RBI hits off Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon.
Path to the ALDS: Anaheim (97-65) won the AL West by 10 games; Boston (95-67) finished second in the AL East and won the Wild Card
