For the second straight year, the Yankees swept the Rangers in the ALDS. The formula was similar to 1998, as the Rangers -- who had scored 945 runs in 1999 -- were held again to just one run while batting .152. Juan Gonzalez scored Texas' only run for the second straight year.

And for the second year in a row, it all ended quietly with a shutout in Arlington.

Yankees newcomer Roger Clemens recorded a postseason win for the first time since the 1986 ALCS against the Angels, combining with Jeff Nelson and Mariano Rivera for a 3-0 shutout in the clincher. Darryl Strawberry's three-run homer in the first inning accounted for all of the scoring.

Derek Jeter was the top hitter in the series with a .455 average (5-for-11) and three runs. Next up for the defending World Series champions was a date with division-rival Boston to decide the AL pennant.
