The Washington Nationals agreed to terms on a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2025 with outfielder Joey Gallo and designated catcher Israel Pineda for assignment on Saturday. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.

Gallo, 30, is a two-time All-Star (2019, 2021) and two-time Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner (2020, 2021) and ranks third in Major League Baseball since 2017 with 13.16 at bats per home run. Over that span, he ranks fourth in the American League in home runs with 184, trailing only New York’s Aaron Judge (253), Los Angeles’ Mike Trout (200) and Cleveland’s José Ramírez (197).

The left-handed hitting Gallo batted .177 with nine doubles, one triple, 21 home runs, 40 RBI, 48 walks, a .440 slugging percentage and 39 runs scored in 111 games with the Minnesota Twins last season. In parts of nine Major League seasons, Gallo has slashed .197/.323/.466 with 98 doubles, 10 triples, 198 home runs, 426 RBI, 465 walks and 439 runs scored.

The two-time Gold Glover has played 335 games in left field, 219 games in right field, 147 games at first base, 92 games at third base and 67 games in center field throughout his career. He ranks tied for 10th in Major League Baseball in outfield assists over the last seven seasons with 41.

A native of Las Vegas, Nev., Gallo was selected in the first round (39th overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop Gorman High School.

Pineda, 23, spend six professional seasons – including his Major League debut in 2022 – with the Nationals after signing with the organization in 2016.
