Rizzo issues statement on George Floyd's death
Nationals general manager and president of baseball operations Mike Rizzo issued a statement on Thursday afternoon regarding the death of George Floyd, in which he spoke out against police brutality and discrimination.
“I am horrified by the murder of George Floyd. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I strongly believe that silence is unacceptable and words are meaningless without action,” Rizzo said.
“Black Lives Matter. There is no place in this world for racism. We have a responsibility to speak out against police brutality and discrimination against African Americans everywhere.”
Rizzo, who joined the Nationals in 2006, also addressed the Washington community.
“Washington, DC, is my home,” he said. “The people of DC are my people. I am listening, I stand with you, and I am committed to being part of systemic change so every citizen here can say we are DC and DC is us.”
The Nationals issued a statement from the organization on Tuesday. Several players on the team have spoken out as well on social media.
