Talk about a fast start.

Elijah Green required exactly two professional plate appearance to collect his first home run, as the No. 5 overall pick hit a solo jack on Tuesday in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.

The Nationals prospect was ranked by MLB Pipeline as the No. 3 prospect coming into the Draft, boasting impressive tools across the board -- including 70-grade speed and 60-grade power. The latter came into play in the FCL Nationals' 10-5 loss to the FCL Astros, as Green teed off with an absolute no-doubter in the third inning.

The 18-year-old outfielder is the son of former NFL Pro Bowl tight end Eric Green, who was on hand to catch the moonshot on video.

Green, who signed for a slightly-above-slot $6.5 million bonus, batted third in the FCL Nats lineup and finished the debut 1-for-4.

Facing seventh-ranked Astros prospect Shawn Dubin -- on a rehab assignment from Triple-A Sugar Land -- in his first pro at-bat, Green was called out on strikes in the opening frame. Two innings later, the right-handed hitter welcomed 22-year-old righty Johan Figuero to the game with his first pro roundtripper.

Even before the homer, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound teenager had already shown his power at Nationals Park, having taken batting practice with the big league team on July 29. On that day, he admitted to anticipating his first professional home run and noted a primary goal for his development:

“Try to hit the ball hard.”

By that measure, go ahead and call his first pro game a success.

“I just feel like my skills I’ve been working hard on the past few years now, just showing that it paid off, hitting home runs 10 rows up is just, I love it,” Green said after the BP session.

No. 8 Nationals prospect Jarlin Susana -- who came to Washington from San Diego in the Juan Soto deal at the Trade Deadline -- made the start in his system debut. He surrendered a run on a walk and two hits while striking out four over two innings.
