's Game-Winning Grand Slam

July 29 vs. Atlanta Braves

What makes an MVP an MVP? Is it numbers? Intangibles? Attitude? Work ethic? Production? Performance under pressure? How about all of the above?

Anthony Rendon was in the midst of the greatest season of his career. The Most Underrated Player in Baseball had hit and slugged and fielded his way into the NL MVP conversation after being named to his first career All-Star Game and pacing the Senior Circuit in hitting for much of the summer. But all that's for naught if you can't put the team on your back, and Rendon did just that in a crucial game against the rival Atlanta Braves.

With the score 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, two outs and the bases full, Rendon stepped to the plate and did what MVPs do. He worked the count into his favor, sat on a pitch, and launched the 2-0 offering halfway up the left field seats at Nats Park, effectively busting the game wide open with one swing of the bat.
