LATEST INJURIES
3B Ernie Clement
Injury: Lip laceration and contusion
Expected return: Day to day
Status: Clement was hit in the face with a pitch on March 3 against the Tigers in Lakeland, Fla., and immediately left with the Blue Jays' trainer. (updated March 3)
CF Daulton Varsho
Injury: Right rotator cuff surgery
Expected return: Early 2025; Opening Day in question
Status: Varsho has played in two spring games as a DH and homered in both, but his throwing is still the final hurdle. The next step is for Varsho to throw to bases from the outfield, simulating a game. (updated March 3)
RHP Erik Swanson
Injury: Right forearm fatigue
Expected return: In time for Opening Day
Status: Swanson was "a little behind" to start camp, but threw a side session in the bullpen on Feb. 28 at the Blue Jays' complex and is on track to be ready in time. (updated Feb. 28)
RHP Ryan Burr
Injury: Right shoulder tendinitis
Expected return: In time for Opening Day
Status: Burr felt the tendinitis recently and backed off throwing for a couple of days, but he played catch on Feb. 22 and should have plenty of time to ramp back up if all goes well. (updated Feb. 22)
RHP Alek Manoah
Injury: Right UCL surgery
Expected return: Midseason 2025
Status: Manoah's recovery has been steady and all news has been positive, so the big right-hander is positioning himself for a comeback story in the second half of the season, similar to what Hyun Jin Ryu did down the stretch in 2023. (updated Feb. 13)
LHP Ricky Tiedemann
Injury: Tommy John surgery (left elbow)
Expected return: Potentially late 2025
Status: Tiedemann has physical gifts few prospects do, but he has battled injuries, and this recovery is his biggest challenge yet. If he gets back into game action by the end of the 2025 season, that's a success. (updated Feb. 13)
