SEATTLE -- Dee Gordon left Friday night's 7-1 loss to the Rockies after getting nailed at home plate.
The Mariners second baseman took off for home plate on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rockies catcher Tony Wolters was able to flip the ball to pitcher German Marquez, who tagged Gordon on his left quad just before Gordon's right foot landed on the plate.
"He tweaked his hip," said manager Scott Servais. "I think he'll be OK. We'll know more probably tomorrow morning, but I don't think it's anything too serious.
"He kind of made a funny jab at the plate or whatever and landed awkwardly on it. He felt something right away. Just precautionary."
Gordon did not slide or dive on his way into home plate. He also grabbed at his lower back on his walk to the dugout.
"Obviously he probably should have got down, slid on the play, and I think he would have been safe if he would have slid," Servais said. "I don't have a problem with him taking off and trying to score on the play. Dee's usually safe. When he takes off, he's got good instincts."
On the next pitch, Denard Span hit a solo shot into right field, good for the Mariners' only run of the ballgame. Andrew Romine took over at second base.
