Indians promote LHP Josh Smith, OF Greg Allen from Triple-A Columbus
CLEVELAND, OH -- The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2019 Major League roster:
Recalled OF GREG ALLEN (#1) from AAA Columbus.
Selected the contract of LHP JOSH D. SMITH (#63) from AAA Columbus.
Optioned C ERIC HAASE and RHP ADAM PLUTKO to AAA Columbus.
Allen, 26, has split the 2019 season between Cleveland and AAA Columbus, batting .284 (25-for-88) with 13 runs, 5 2B, 1 3B, 2 homers and 4 RBI in 21 games with the Clippers (.351 on-base %), hitting .333 (10-for-30) over his last 7 games. He opened the season on the Major League roster, appearing in 19 games prior to his April 28 optional assignment.
Smith, 29, is making his debut at the Major League level after eight seasons at the Minor League level. He has spent the entire season to date at Triple-A Columbus, posting a record of 5-1 with 3 saves and a 1.82 ERA in 17 relief appearances (24.2IP, 8H, 5ER, 10BB, 32SO, .099 avg). He has limited left-handed batters to a .100 (3-for-30) average against, an overall mark of .032 (1-for-31) with runners on base and has yet to allow a hit this year with runners in scoring position (0-for-19). The Pleasant Hill, Missouri native was signed by Cleveland to a free agent Minor League contact on December 1 and was a non-roster invitee to Major League camp.
