Learn more about the AL All-Star candidates at first base:
C.J. Cron (MIN): Has not been named to an All-Star team
It appeared that Cron had his breakout season in 2018, when he hit 30 homers and slugged .493 for the Rays. But Cron is putting up the best numbers of his career in ‘19, on pace for personal bests in on-base percentage, slugging percentage and hard-hit rate. The last Twins first baseman to start an All-Star Game was Rod Carew in 1978.
Carlos Santana (CLE): Has not been named to an All-Star team
Santana never made an All-Star team in his first, eight-year stint in Cleveland. But after one season in Philadelphia, Santana is back and could become the first Indians first baseman to start a Midsummer Classic since Jim Thome in 1999.
Santana is more than halfway to last year’s total of 24 home runs, and he currently has career bests in batting average, OBP and slugging.
Luke Voit (NYY): Has not been named to an All-Star team
The Yankees traded for Voit at last year’s Deadline, and he’s been providing plenty of power ever since. After hitting five home runs in 70 career games with the Cardinals, Voit has more than 30 in fewer than 150 games in pinstripes. He has set a career high in big flies already in 2019, helping the Yankees weather the extended absences of sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.
