CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians announced today the long-term signing of Opening Day starter RHP Tanner Bibee to a five-year contract extension thru the 2029 season with a Club Option for 2030.
Bibee, 26, owns a 22-12 record with a 3.25 ERA (114ER/315.2IP) with 328 strikeouts and a runner-up AL Rookie of the Year finish in 56 starts through his first two seasons with Cleveland. The Mission Viejo, CA native was the club’s most effective starter in 2024, leading the Guardians and setting new career-highs in innings (173.2IP), starts (31), quality starts (12) and strikeouts (187).
He has recorded double-digit win totals in each of his first two seasons (10 in 2023 & 12 in 2024), becoming the third Clevelander since 2000 to win at least 10 games in his each of his first two Major League seasons, joining Shane Bieber (2018-19) and Hall of Famer CC Sabathia (2001-02). The Guards went 22-9 in his 31 starts in 2024 before recording a 3.45 ERA (6ER/19.2IP) in 4 Postseason starts. He also excelled with his glove, earning his first career Fielding Bible Award. The Cal State Fullerton product was Cleveland’s fifth round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft, debuting just 21 months later with the Guardians in April 2023.
