CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Guardians announced today the re-signing of free agent RHP Shane Bieber to a 2025 Major League contract with a Player Option for the 2026 season.

Bieber, 29, returns to the Guardians organization following an impactful seven-year stint on the Major League club, posting a mark of 62-32 with a 3.22 ERA in 136 games/134 starts (843.0IP, 752H, 302ER, 958SO, .236avg). The two-time American League All-Star and 2019 ASG MVP captured the 2020 AL Cy Young Award, winning the Major League Triple Crown after leading the Majors in wins (8), ERA (1.63) and strikeouts (122). His tenure has been historic among franchise pitchers, posting the highest strikeout per 9.0 IP ratio in club history (10.2^) and third-highest winning pct. (.660^) in the 124-year history of the franchise. He is one of just three pitchers in club history to start five season Opening Days along with Stan Coveleski (1917-21) and Corey Kluber (2015-19).

The Laguna Hills, CA native started his fifth-consecutive season opener, fanning 11 Athletics over 6.0-shutout innings on March 28 at Oakland. The right-hander followed up his dominant Opening Day showing with 9 strikeouts over 6.0-scoreless innings on April 2 at Seattle, becoming one of five pitchers in Cleveland history to throw 6.0-or-more shutout frames in his first 2 starts of the season and the only hurler to do it twice (also 2020). Following his second outing, Bieber was shutdown with right elbow soreness before eventually undergoing right elbow reconstruction on April 12, ending his season.

Bieber becomes the second Major League free agent signing for the club this offseason following the November 6th re-signing of C Austin Hedges. The 40-man roster is currently at 39 players.
