Former mates J-Ram, Lindor win weekly honors
For six years, José Ramírez and Francisco Lindor were Cleveland teammates. And while they may now play in different leagues, they’ve been brought together again, as the duo on Tuesday were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet.
Last week, Ramírez continued his hot start to the season, slashing .348/.423/.957, with three home runs, 11 RBIs, three steals, three walks and only one strikeout. In total, seven of Ramírez’s eight hits went for extra bases. Along with being tied for the league lead in triples (four), Ramírez leads all of baseball with 51 RBIs, and he became the first player to reach 50 RBIs this season. He’s batting .297 on the year with 13 home runs, 11 doubles, six steals and 28 runs scored while only striking out 15 times.
Lindor has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball over the past month, and last week was no exception. Along with slashing .348/.407/.870, Lindor drove in a run in every game last week, and has recorded an RBI in eight straight games. Lindor’s best game of the week came on Tuesday when he recorded a triple, a home run and six RBIs in a 13-12 Mets loss to the Giants that might end up being the game of the year.
Lindor finished with 14 RBIs over the week’s span to go along with two doubles, two triples and two home runs. On the season, the switch-hitting shortstop is batting .262 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs for a Mets team that has the second-best record in baseball.
This is Lindor’s third time winning Player of the Week, with his first two wins coming in back-to-back weeks in May 2018. Ramírez has now won the award six times, with his most recent win coming earlier this year.
