Gregory Scott (Woody) Williams...Woody and his wife, Kimberli, have four children: daughters Hannah (April 26, 1993), Lillian (October 15, 2002) and Katelyn (May 24, 1988) and son Caden (April 27, 1995)...was an All-District shortstop at Cypress-Fairbanks High School, where he also played football and basketball....earned an Associate of Arts degree from Alvin CC (TX) and later transferred to the University of Houston, where he was an All-Region shortstop (1987-88)...started the "Woody's Winners" program in 2000 to reach out to the Special Olympics of San Diego and North County...was the Padres nomination for the 2006 Roberto Clemente Award and received the Padres Chairman Award in 2005 and 2000, becoming the first player in franchise history to receive the award twice.

2007

In his first Padres' season, he won his final five decisions en route to establishing career highs in wins (12) and starts (33)...matched Sterling Hitchcock for staff-high honors in starts...his 208.1 innings pitched led the Padres while his 137 strikeouts trailed only Hitchcock...base stealers were only 6x16 (38 percent) attempting to steal against Williams, the best rate among NL right-handers (minimum of 162.0 innings) and the third-lowest success rate in the league behind Atlanta's Terry Mulholland (1x5, 20 percent) and San Francisco's Kirk Rueter (4x12, 33.3 percent)...did not allow a stolen base in his final 71.0 innings after Montreal's Rondell White swiped second on Aug. 7...fanned a career-high 12 in 6.0 innings, establishing a 1999 Padres season high, in a 7-6 win at Philadelphia on Aug. 23...finished 5-3 with a 3.63 ERA (36 ER/89.1 IP) in 14 starts at home and went 6-9 with a 4.99 ERA (66 ER/119.0 IP) in 19 starts on the road...the Padres went 18-15 in his 33 starts, including wins in the final six and in seven of his last eight...made a club-high 19 quality starts (58 percent)...led the San Diego pitching staff in batting average, hits, extra-base hits (4), and RBI...laid down four sacrifices, and fanned only 19 times in 73 at-bats.

For the second consecutive season, established career highs with 10 victories, 32 starts, 209.2 innings pitched, and 151 strikeouts in his sixth and final campaign with the Blue Jays...was 8-3 with a 2.63 ERA in 17 starts before the All-Star Break and 2-6 with a 5.46 ERA in 15 starts after the Break...limited the opposition to a .245 average, ninth-best in the American League...ranked among AL leaders in pitches per start (fourth with 110.66), hits per innings pitched (ninth with 0.93), base runners per nine innings (10th with 12.0), and on-base percentage allowed (10th with .314)...Blue Jays went 14-18 in his 32 starts...worked 7.0 innings or more in 15 starts and went at least 5.0 innings in 31 of 32 starts...opponents batted just .203 with runners in scoring position, third-best in the league...limited right-handed hitters to a .220 batting average, fourthbest in the AL...was perfect through 5.0 innings in a 6-3 win at Oakland on May 3...took a no-hitter into the eighth on May 19 vs. Tampa Bay, but Kevin Stocker broke up the bid with a ground-ball single to right to start the frame.

Used exclusively as a starter for the first time in his Major League career and posted then-career highs in wins (nine), starts (31), innings pitched (194.2), and strikeouts (124)...stuck with a loss or a no-decision in eight starts in which he allowed two earned runs or fewer as he received the least run support per nine innings pitched (3.19 runs) in the AL...18 of his 31 starts were quality starts...worked at least 6.0 innings in 24 starts, including 14 of his last 16...allowed a career-high four home runs, June 3 at Seattle...did not start again until the Blue Jays' first-ever Interleague game on June 13 at Philadelphia, due to tendinitis in his right shoulder...allowed a run in 5.1 innings in a no-decision and also collected the first-ever hit by a Toronto pitcher in a regular season contest...won three consecutive starts immediately following the All-Star Break from July 13-24...finished 3-2 with a 3.34 ERA in July...tossed 7.0 scoreless innings in a 3-0 win vs. Boston on Sept. 26 in his final start of the season.

Opened the season on the DL, still recovering from 1995 shoulder surgery...rehabbed at Single A Dunedin and Triple A Syracuse prior to making his first appearance of the season on June 2 with 2.0 scoreless innings vs. Kansas City...made one more appearance, June 6 at New York, before returning to the DL on June 11...after two rehab appearances at Syracuse and two more at Single A St. Catherines, was optioned to Triple A on July 26 and was recalled to Toronto on Aug. 5...made 10 consecutive starts, going 4-5 with a 4.61 ERA...on Sept. 4, threw 8.0 innings of five-hit shutout ball, striking out a then-career high nine vs. Kansas City...combined with Mike Timlin on a 6-0 shutout...in his final start, threw his first career complete game in a 4-1 loss vs. Baltimore on Sept. 26...gave up four earned runs on eight hits, walked two and fanned six.

1995

Did not pitch in the Majors after July 16 due to shoulder problems...made the first three starts of his Major League career in his final three appearances...made his big league starting debut on July 2 vs. Baltimore...threw 7.0 shutout innings... left with two outs in the seventh, having allowed two runs on three hits...walked two and fanned six...ended up with a nodecision in a 9-7 loss...five days later, earned a 4-2 win at Oakland...allowed a run on three hits over 5.0 innings, walking one and striking out two...left with a sore right shoulder after 1.1 innings in his final start on July 16 at Seattle...was placed on the 15-day DL on July 20...underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery performed by Dr. James Andrews to repair his rotator cuff and a labrum tear in his right shoulder on Sept. 12.

1994

Made a career-high 38 appearances, all in relief...his 3.64 ERA included a 1.02 mark (2ER/17.2IP) after the All-Star break...led the AL with a .163 average allowed with runners on base...lefties hit only .184 (18x98), second-best in the league... opened the season 1-1 with a 5.79 ERA through 20 appearances before being optioned to Syracuse on June 9 after throwing 5.0 innings of three-hit shutout relief to earn a 7-5 win against the Yankees that same day...made just one appearance for the Chiefs before being recalled, logging a 1.72 ERA in his first 18 games after his return...finished the season with 15.2 consecutive scoreless innings...stranded 17 of 20 inherited runners.

1993

Opened the season with Syracuse but was recalled by the Blue Jays on May 14 to make his Major League debut that same day...allowed two earned runs on three hits in 0.2 innings at New York...was optioned back to Triple A on May 21, but was recalled four days later when Todd Stottlemyre went on the DL...earned his first Major League win on June 4 with 2.2 innings of shutout relief vs. Oakland...earned wins in three of four appearances from June 4-22 and was 3-0 with a 2.37 ERA through his first 13 Major League appearances.
