Made five Major League starts, going 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA (22.0 IP, 10 ER) and starting the home opener vs. the Chicago Cubs. Started the home opener vs. the Cubs on April 10, getting no-decision in the 5-1 win, allowing four hits and one run over four innings, walking three and hitting two batters. Was 1-1 over his next three starts with the Rockies 1-2; allowed 12 hits and eight runs with 15 walks from April 21-May 6 … optioned to Albuquerque May 8. Made 10 starts at Triple-A Albuquerque, going 0-1 with a 8.74 ERA (11.1 IP, 11 ER) in 10 games, one start … pitched in three-games for Short-Season Boise in relief in June (2.1 IP, 6 ER). Was placed on Triple-A temporarily inactive list after allowing one hit, seven runs, seven walks and one hit batter on May 13 vs. Fresno … did not pitch again until three relief appearances at Short-Season Boise in June. Returned to Triple-A in August, making nine relief appearances the remainder of the season, allowing a combined four earned runs over 10.1 innings. … allowed one hit and two runs with eight walks and eight strikeouts in 7.1 innings over seven August appearances for Albuquerque.

Spent the entire 2012 season with the Double-A Tulsa Drillers, his first experience at the Double-A level...Matthes' 17 home runs led the club despite him missing the final month of the season due to injury...hit just .193 (47-for-243) with 8 home runs and 19 RBI prior to the All-Star break...then hit .269 (25-for-93) with 9 home runs and 21 RBI following the All-Star break...was the Drillers everyday right-fielder...Matthes has started all but one professioinal game in right field since he was drafted in 2009...has hit 40 home runs between High-A Modesto and Double-A Tulsa in 187 games over the past two seasons.
