Steve Reed made a successful return to the Mile High City in 2003, appearing in 67 games while posting a 5-3 record with a 3.27 ERA (63.1 ip, 23 er)...already Colorado's all-time leader in career ERA (3.62), Reed added the club record in appearances this season which now stands at 396...Steve joined Dan Plesac as the only big league relievers to have appeared in at least 50 games in each of the last 11 seasons since 1993...his 63.1 innings pitched give him 433.0 as a member of the Rockies, ninth most in team history...was steady at Coors Field as always, going 4-1 with a 3.24

Padres ... that ERA ranked fourth among NL relievers and eighth among all major league relievers ... with San Diego,
he was 2-4 with a 1.98 ERA (41.0 ip, 9 er) and one save in 40 games ... was then dealt to New York at the trade deadline
and went 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA (26.0 ip, 6 er) in 24 outings ... recorded a 1.62 ERA (33.1 ip, 6 er) at his home
ballparks ... issued 14 walks in his 67.0 ip of work, a 1.88 walks-per-nine innings ratio ... made San Diego's Opening
Day roster as a non-roster invitee and went on to become the club's most effective reliever in the first half ... held
opponents scoreless in 32 of his 40 outings with the Padres ... allowed just 2 earned runs over his first 16 appearances,
covering 19.0 innings (9 h, 3 BB, 24 K) ... not only did he have a 0.95 ERA through his first 16 games but limited the
opposition to a .150 average against ... gave up just 4 earned runs in his first 20 outings and 22.1 ip (1.61 ERA) ... did
not walk a batter until his 10th appearance on May 4 ... posted a 13.0 inning scoreless streak, April 16-May 19 ... had
a season-best 1.38 ERA (13.0 ip, 2 er) in May ... picked up his lone save on July 16 vs. Colorado, just his second
save since 1997 ... at the time of his trade, he led the club with 11 relief holds and stranded 24 of 29 inherited
runners (83%) ... moved on to the Big Apple and pitched shutout ball in 19 of his 24 appearances with the Mets ... went
8 games and 8.2 innings without allowing a run from Aug. 25 to Sept. 12 ... stranded 10 of 14 inherited runners with
New York and combined with the two teams, allowed only 9 of 43 inherited runners to score, stranding 79%.
2001
SUMMARY: Split the 2001 season between Cleveland and Atlanta...was acquired by the Braves on June 23...combined to go 3-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 70 games for the 2 clubs.
WITH CLEVELAND: Finished 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA in 31 games for Cleveland before being dealt to Atlanta...took the loss in his first appearance of the season April 7 vs. Baltimore, but rebounded to finish April with a 1-1 record and a 1.50 ERA...did not allow a run in 9 appearances (11.2 IP) April 9-May 2...earned his lone victory with Cleveland April 21 vs. Detroit.
WITH ATLANTA: Went 2-2 with a 2.48 ERA in 39 games out of the bullpen to help the Braves capture the National League East crown...did not allow a run in his first 8 appearances with Atlanta June 23-July 8...also worked 11 straight scoreless outings (7.2 IP) August 2-24...July 18 at Cincinnati, recorded the game's final out to notch his first save since 1997...stranded 23 of 27 baserunners (85 percent) with the Braves...limited right-handed hitters to a .148 average (12-for-81) after the trade.

READY TO GO: Is the only right-handed pitcher in baseball to have pitched in at least 50 games each of the last 9 seasons (1993-2001)...the only other active pitcher to accomplish the feat is lefthander Dan Plesac.

Although missing the 60-game plateau for the first time since his rookie campaign, pitched in 57 contests for Cleveland to mark his 8th straight season with 50 or more appearances...did not allow a run in 35 of his 57 outings...ranked 4th among American league relievers by allowing only 17 percent (6 of 36) of inherited baserunners to score...posted a 6.04 ERA in the first half, a 2.60 ERA in the season's 2nd half...pitched in his 500th career big league game June 4 at St. Louis...retired 18 straight batters in July...posted a 2.58 ERA after August 22 to lower his ERA from 4.93 to 4.34...tossed 8.2 scoreless innings to finish the season....suffered only one blown save (April 5 at Baltimore).
1999
Signed a 2-year contract extension with Cleveland through the 2001 season on April 23...was 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA before being sidelined with a strep infection in late May...did not pitch from May 23-31...after a tough June and July, during which he combined on a 4.74 ERA in 25 games, posted a 2.84 ERA in August...was sidelined September 8-19 with right elbow tendinitis...returned to pitch in 4 more regular-season games...worked scoreless relief in 43 of 63 appearances...pitched in a pair of post-season games for Cleveland before being shut down for the season after Game 4 of the Division Series vs. Boston with a strain of the flexor pronator muscle/tendon in his right forearm, an injury that hindered him for much of the season's 2nd half.
1998
Posted a stellar 1.48 ERA in 50 games with San Francisco before being dealt to Cleveland just one week before the trading deadline...tossed 22.1 scoreless innings for the 2 clubs June 27-August 1...was tied for the National League lead with 50 appearances at the time of the trade...eclipsed the 60-appearances barrier for the 6th straight season...pitched in just 6 September games for the Tribe due to numbness in the fingers of his right hand...had an arteriogram on September 10 that revealed a small blood clot in his right wrist...was placed on medication to dilate his arteries...pitched 1.0 scoreless inning September 17 vs. Minnesota...had a 2nd arteriogram on September 19 at St. John's West Shore Hospital which resulted in a catheter being placed in his right arm above the elbow down to the wrist to dissolve the clot...took the mound again September 25 at Minnesota...went 1-0 with a 11.57 ERA in 5 post-season appearances as Cleveland reached the American League Championship Series by New York...earned his first post-season win in the 4th and final game of the Division Series vs. Boston...had his option picked up by Cleveland on October 20...was given a clean bill of health, including the blood clot, after a December visit to the Cleveland Clinic.

Finished his 5th and final season with Colorado by recording a career-high 6 saves, all of which came in May...ranked 3rd on the team with 63 appearances...limited opposing batters to a .219 batting average....assumed the Rockies' closer role for May...pocketed 2 wins, 6 saves and stranded 15 of 18 baserunners during the month...ended his Rockies tenure by signing with San Francisco as a free agent on December 24.

Led the National League with 22 holds...reached the 70-game plateau for the 2nd straight season...allowed only 15 of 48 inherited baserunners (31 percent) to score.

Eatablished career highs with 71 games and 79 strikeouts...produced a career-best 2.14 ERA, 2nd on the Rockies to only Bruce Ruffin (2.12)...limited opposing batters to a .203 average...ended the season on a 3-game winning streak, including back-to-back wins September 15-16 vs. Florida...at the plate, singled on June 27 off San Francisco's Shawn Barton at Candlestick Park for his first career hit.

Led major league baseball by appearing in 61 games for the Rockies...posted a 2.80 ERA in his first 32 appearances of the year.

Joined the Rockies organization as a 3rd-round selection (60th overall) in the 1992 Expansion Draft...won a career-high 9 games in the Rockies' inaugural season...ranked 2nd on the staff in both wins and games (64)...tossed 3.1 one-hit scoreless innings and was the winning pitcher in the first-ever game between expansion clubs Colorado and Florida April 23 at Mile High Stadium...was optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs on May 12...picked up 7 saves in 11 games with the SkySox, tossing 12.1 scoreless innings...was recalled on June 14 and posted a 1.13 ERA through July 19...recorded his first big league save July 11 vs. St. Louis...despite a road ERA of 1.60, 7 of his 9 wins came at Mile High Stadium.

Set a then minor league record by recording 43 saves for Double-A Shreveport and Triple-A Phoenix to win Minor League Baseball's Rolaids Relief Man of the Year honors...the performance earned his first big league promotion...ranked 3rd in both the Texas League and Pacific Coast League in saves despite spending only half a season in either circuit...did not walk a batter in 27 Texas League contests...notched 8 saves in his first 10 PCL appearances after being promoted on June 15...made his major league debut August 30 vs. Chicago...worked scoreless relief in each of his first 6 big league appearances...got his first big league win in the October 2 season finale at Cincinnati.

Made his Triple-A debut with a team-high 41 appearances for Phoenix of the Pacific Coast League...began the season with Double-A Shreveport, where he earned the promotion by recording a 0.83 ERA in 15 games.

Advanced to Shreveport, where his posted 3 wins, 8 saves and a team-best 1.64 ERA in 45 games, all but one in relief.
1989
Earned a spot on the Midwest League All-Star team by posting a 1.05 ERA and 26 saves for Single-A Clinton...held opponents to a .171 batting average...was promoted to Single-A San Jose for a pair of appearances at the end of the year.
