In 1990 graduated from Northwest High School in Cincinnati, where he played baseball, basketball and soccer...also played 4 years of baseball at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio...graduated from MU with a bachelor's degree in geology.
2007
Posted a 4.22era in 46 relief apps for the Astros' Class AAA Round Rock affiliate and the Blue Jays' Class A Dunedin and Class AAA Syracuse affiliates...began the season with the Astros but was released on 6/19 after posting a 3.93era in 18 apps at Round Rock...on 6/25 was signed by the Blue Jays to a minor league contract...pitched in 5g for Dunedin before he was promoted on 7/11...spent the rest of the season with Syracuse...became a free agent following the season and on 1/22/08 was signed by the Reds to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training camp.
2006
Signed by Oakland as a free agent on 6/19 after he was released by Cleveland on 6/16...posted a 3.65 ERA in 22 relief appearances with the A's...went 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA in 24 relief outings with Cleveland...overall, he was 0-1 with a 4.97 ERA in 46 appearances...46 games were his fewest games pitched in his seven Major League seasons and his ERA was the secondhighest of his career (5.60 in 2001)...held the opposition to a .234 average but walked 18 batters in 25.1 innings, an average of 6.39 per nine innings...allowed all three of his home runs to lefties...first batters he faced hit .167 (6x36), including nine walks and a hit batter...the batting average was lowest among Major League relievers...allowed seven of 28 (25 pct.) inherited runners to score...hit six batters in his 12.1 innings with the A's and had a career-high seven hit batters overall, which tied for second-most among AL relievers...compiled a 3.52 ERA (3ER/7.2IP) in 11 outings on no days rest and a 5.61 ERA (11ER/17.2IP) in his other 35 outings...tossed more than 1.0 inning in just two of his 46 outings and tossed fewer than 1.0 inning in 29 outings...his longest outings were 1.1 innings on 7/1 at ARI and 9/2 at BAL...placed on the DL on on 7/27, retroactive to 7/26, with a strained groin...made one rehab appearance with Triple A Sacramento on 8/7 and one with with Single A Stockton on 8/9 before he was reinstated from the DL on 8/10.

Ranked seventh among National League pitchers in appearances...struck out a career-high five batters in 2.0 innings of work at Atlanta on 4/21...surrendered just one earned run in an 18-game stretch from 4/18-5/20 (17.0IP), dropping his ERA from 8.59 to 2.96 (only time below 3.00 all season)...placed on 15-day DL with a left elbow sprain on 6/15...made two scoreless appearances with Triple A Nashville while on a rehab assignment from 6/29-7/2...was reinstated on 7/3...combined with Jimmy Anderson and Marc Wilkins on a 6-0 shutout vs. LAD on 8/1 (game one) - left the game after being hit on the elbow by Chad Kreuter's line drive in the ninth inning...earned his only save of the season with a scoreless inning of relief at San Diego on 9/2...was the losing pitcher in the final baseball game ever played at Three Rivers Stadium on 10/1 vs. CHI (NL)... inherited a team-high 49 runners and allowed 15 to score.

Agreed to terms on a three-year contract on 3/5...spent the entire season with PIT...ranked second on the staff in appearances behind Josias Manzanillo (71)...went 1-1 with a 9.42 ERA (30ER/28.2IP) in 37 games against NL Central teams and 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA (9ER/34IP) in his other 33 appearances...recorded first save on 6/19 vs. PHI...tied career-high with five strikeouts on 7/15 vs. LAD...was not charged with an earned run in eight games during the month of August...made 200th career appearance on 9/7 vs. CIN...notched second save on 10/1 at NYM (last ML save)...surrendered six hits and six runs in final appearance (0.1IP) on 10/6 at CHI (NL)...went 2x4 in save situations and allowed just 11 of his 44 inherited runners to score.

2004
Missed the entire season with an injury...in January had surgery to repair the torn labrum and torn rotator cuff in his left shoulder...in April was signed by the Indians to a minor league contract and spent the year rehabbing between Cle and Florida...following the regular season pitched in the Florida Instructional League and in the Dominican Winter League...was added to the 40-man roster on 10/13...the Indians exercised his 2005 contract option on 11/19.
