Scott M. Olsen...Is a 2002 graduate of Crystal Lake (IL) South High School, where he was All-Conference in baseball...Was present outside Wrigley Field as a fan, on Waveland Avenue, when Steve Bartman became famous, during Game 6 of the 2003 N.L.C.S. on October 14.
2010
Returned to action following 2009 season-ending shoulder surgery...Began season with Triple-A Syracuse and made one start on 4/9 before being recalled by Washington on 4/15...Won two of his first three decisions with the Nationals...Pitched a career-high 20.0 consecutive scoreless innings over three starts from 4/25 to 5/6...Suffered loss on 5/21 vs. Baltimore and was placed on the 15-day disabled list on 5/22 due to tightness in left shoulder...Made a pair of rehab starts with the GCL Nationals and one with Class-A Hagerstown before being reinstated from D.L. on 7/29...Was victorious in first start back with the Nats on 7/29 vs. Atlanta, but then lost six straight assignments from 8/3 thru 9/1...Gave up nine runs in 1.2ip while making last start on 9/1 at Florida...Made his final two outings in relief, picking up a victory with 4.0 scoreless innings of work on 9/6 vs. New York (NL) - had made 126 consecutive big league starts before making relief appearance on 9/6.
2009
Went 2-4 with a 6.03 ERA in 11 starts, as first season with Washington was injury-ridden...had season-ending surgery performed on left shoulder, July 23...the procedure-a debridement of the RC joint and the labrum-was performed in DC by Dr. Wiemi Douoguih...earlier in season, missed 38 games while on DL with left-shoulder tendinitis...after brief rehab stint, returned to the mound on June 29 at FLA...went 1-0 with a 3.74 ERA in 3 post-DL starts after returning from the DL...in same 3 starts, averaged 7.1 innings...prior to DL stint, worked as many as 7.0 innings just once in initial 8 starts...notched 4 quality starts, but allowed 5 or more runs 5 times in 11 assignments.

Secured first win as a National in a 4-1 win, April 29 at PHI...out pitched Brett Myers to end the Nationals' 5-game losing streak at Citizens Bank Park...allowed one run on 6 hits in 5.2 innings...walked 2 and struck out 6...came up one out shy of first career complete game while earning 2nd win with the Nationals, July 5 vs. HOU...lasted 8.2 innings and allowed 3 runs, 2 of which came via Nate McLouth's 2-run shot with 2 outs in the 9th, on 8 hits...walked 5 and struck out 5 as Washington won, 5-3.
In Minor Leagues:
In 4 rehab June starts with Potomac of the Single-A Carolina League (one start) and Syracuse of the Triple-A International League (3), went 1-0 with a 4.60 ERA...walked 6 and struck out 13 for the 2 clubs.

In last season with FLA, posted 8 wins, a 4.20 ERA and a .253 batting average against for the 84-win club in 4th big league campaign...established career high with 201.2 innings pitched...was one of just 18 NL pitchers to reach the 200-inning plateau in 2008...made 17 quality starts...logged 6.0 or more innings in 23 of 33 starts, and recorded 7.0-plus innings 11 times...walked a career-low 69 batters...ranked 7th among left-handed starters in NL with .253 batting average against...for season, held opponents scoreless in 5 starts (logging 6.0-plus innings in all 5 starts), yet earned victory in only 2 of those contests...enjoyed fantastic start, going 4-1 with 2.22 ERA in first 7 starts, while holding opponents to .186 batting average...for the season, ranked 6th in the NL in batting average against (.187) when facing left-handed batters...averaged a career-best 15.4 pitches per inning...went 3-1 with 3.41 ERA in 5 starts against Nationals.

Went 7-9 with a 2.81 ERA (seventh-best in the South Atlantic League) in 25 games (24 starts) with Low A Greensboro and struck out 8.9 batters per nine innings, fourth-best in the league ... went 4-2 in six August appearances (five starts) with a 1.54 ERA, he allowed 11 walks and struck out 49 in 35.0 innings pitched while allowing opposing batters a .167 batting average against ... allowed four home runs in 128.1 innings pitched and none in his last 82.2 innings ... had back-to-back double-digit strikeout performances on August 9 against South Georgia when he fanned 11 through six innings while allowing one hit and again on August 16 at Hagerstown when he fanned 10 through six innings while allowing one hit ... ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Marlins organization according to a preseason poll by
