**MANAGING/COACHING CAREER** Reid Cornelius begins his 11th season in the Marlins organization and fourth as the Club's bullpen coach...He began his Marlins coaching career in 2003 as Double-A pitching coach, and returned to that post for the 2008 & '09 seasons...In between his stints with the Marlins' Double-A affiliate, he spent five years as the pitching coach for Single-A Jupiter. **PLAYING CAREER** Selected in the 11th round of the 1988 First-Year Player Draft by the Montreal Expos, Cornelius saw Major League action with Montreal (1995), New York-NL (1995) and Florida (1999-2000), compiling an 8-17 record and 4.91 ERA in 45 games (33 starts)...Made Major League debut on April 29, 1995 at Wrigley Field, working 2.0 innings of relief. Was traded to New York-NL for David Segui on June 8, 1995 and made his Mets' debut on August 3 in Cincinnati. Earned first ML win on August 8, 1995 at Philadelphia. **PERSONAL/MISCELLANEOUS** Jonathan Reid Cornelius. He and his wife Marla, have a daughter, Abigail, and son, Samuel...Graduated from Thomasville (AL) High School in 1988 and lettered in baseball and football. Led Thomasville to the state championship in baseball during his senior season and was also a member of the Alabama Sports Festival team and the U.S. Junior National Team that competed in Melbourne, Australia...Signed a letter of intent to attend Mississippi State University, but chose to sign a professional contract with the Montreal Expos.

2000

• Established career highs with four wins in 21 starts in his fourth Major League season... his 21 starts surpassed his previous total of 12 in three seasons.
• Ended a Club record eight-game losing streak with a win in his only relief appearance of the season in the Marlins 11-5 win over Philadelphia on September 30... allowed three runs on six hits over 4.0 innings.
• Lost a Club record eight straight decisions in a span of 12 starts from July 17-September 20, posting a 5.59 ERA over that span... was moved to the bullpen after a loss at Montreal on September 20... the Marlins lost in his last eight starts of the season... went 0-5 with a 6.89 ERA in his last six starts... lost three straight starts from July 17-28 and September 5-20.
• Posted his ninth quality start of the season on August 30 vs. St. Louis, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out five in 6.0 innings in the Marlins 4-2 loss... left the game with the score tied 2-2 before St. Louis scored two runs off Antonio Alfonseca in the ninth.
• Became the ninth Marlins pitcher to pinch-hit (13th time in Club history) in the eighth inning of the Marlins 2-1 loss in 10 innings on August 12 vs. San Diego, popping up a bunt attempt in foul territory to the catcher... laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to the shortstop in the fourth inning to give the Marlins a 4-2 lead in their 11-5 win over Philadelphia on September 30.
• Allowed a total of two earned runs over two starts on August 7 at St. Louis and August 13 vs. San Diego, earning two no-decisions... allowed one unearned run in 6.1 innings in the Marlins 2-1 loss in St. Louis in 11 innings on August 7... allowed two runs on four hits in 7.0 IP and equaled a career high with six strikeouts in the Marlins 7-3 loss to San Diego on August 13... struck out six of seven hitters in the third and fourth innings and left the game with the score tied at 2-2.
• Equaled the Club record for balks in a game with two in a 17-7 loss to Montreal on July 22... Jesus Sanchez also accomplished the feat on September 2, 1998 vs. St. Louis... had two of a Club record three balks in the game, with reliever Ricky Bones also balking once... led National League and tied for the Major League lead with the White Sox's Jim Parque with five balks in 2000, which tied Chris Hammond's (1993) and Sanchez's (1998) Club record for balks in a season.
• Posted his second quality start in two starts against Tampa Bay on July 8, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits in 5.1 IP in the Marlins 5-4 come-from-behind win... including July 2 at Montreal, allowed two earned runs in a span of two starts for a 1.35 ERA.
• Earned his third win on July 2 at Montreal, allowing one run on four hits and equaling a career high with 8.0 IP in the Marlins 2-1 win.
• Allowed one run or fewer in three straight starts from May 30-June 30 and allowed an average of 1.8 runs per start in five starts from May 30-June 21, posting a 2-0 record and a 2.45 ERA over that span... went 2-1 with a 3.73 ERA in five starts in June.
• Did not earn a decision in the Marlins 5-4 comeback win over Milwaukee on June 21, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings... marked the seventh time in his last eight starts that he allowed three runs or fewer and his fourth quality start in his last five games (6.0 IP, 3 R or fewer).
• Took a no-hitter into the seventh inning in the Marlins 5-1 win at Tampa Bay on June 10, earning his first win of the season... allowed a single by Greg Vaughn, the first batter he faced in the seventh... allowed one run on a Gerald Williams groundout in the eighth... finished with one earned run allowed on three hits in a career-high 8.0 innings pitched.
• Left in the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead in the Marlins eventual 3-2 loss to Boston on June 5, allowing one run on six hits in 6.1 IP... marked the third time in his last four Major League starts that he left the game with a lead and failed to earn a win.
• In his second start of the season for Florida, allowed one run on eight hits in 7.0 innings in Florida's 3-2 loss at Pittsburgh on May 30... left in the eighth inning with a 2-1 lead.
• Contract was purchased from AAA Calgary on May 25 for a start in St. Louis that day... allowed seven runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings in the Marlins 7-6 loss in St. Louis.
• Went 2-2 in eight starts at AAA Calgary, including wins in two of his last three starts... earned his first win of the season on May 9 vs. Nashville, allowing one run on four hits in 6.0 innings... allowed three runs on four hits in 6.0 innings, earning the win in his final start for Calgary on May 20 vs. Las Vegas... shut out Fresno for 6.0 innings, allowing two hits, in the Cannons 3-2 loss in 10 innings on April 14.
• Finished the 2000 season ranked 10th all time in Calgary history in innings pitched (215.2) and starts (35), sixth in strikeouts (157) and seventh in ERA (4.51).

1999

• Signed by Marlins to a AAA contract on April 9 after being released by the Angels on March 20... contract purchased by Marlins September 7 from AAA Calgary.
• Made Marlins debut September 8 vs. Los Angeles with 3.0 scoreless innings of relief.
• Allowed five hits over six scoreless innings in his first start for the Marlins, September 21 in a 4-0 shutout vs. Montreal... struck out six and walked one.
• Earned no-decision in his second and final Major League start September 27 at Montreal after pitching into the eighth and leaving with one out and a 4-2 lead... finished season with a 1-0 record and 1.98 ERA in his two Major League starts.
• Set a Marlins organizational AAA record with 135 strikeouts and tied a record with 175.1 innings pitched.
• Was 4-2 with a 2.98 ERA over six AAA starts in August, while holding opposing batters to a .219 average.
• Named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week after tossing a two-hit complete game shutout August 2 at Omaha... walked the first two batters in the first before retiring 17 consecutive batters and not allowing a hit in the game until the seventh.
• Struck out 10 batters August 8 at Iowa... tossed a second complete game victory August 23 at Salt Lake City.
• Finished second in the Pacific Coast League in innings pitched (172.1).

1998

• Opened the season with Montreal, making eight appearances in relief with no record... optioned to Ottawa on May 21, working four times (three starts) before being dealt on June 8 to New York (NL) for David Segui.
• Assigned to AAA Norfolk...recalled on August 1, making his Met debut and first Major League start on August 3 in Cincinnati, a 3-2 loss.
• Gained first Major League victory August 8 at Philadelphia.
• Longest outing was a 7.0 inning stint in 4-2 loss to San Diego on August 27.
• Landed first big league hit on August 22 at Shea Stadium off Giants Mark Leiter.
• Began 1998 season at AAA Tucson (Arizona) and closed out with AAA Charlotte (Florida)... pitched a complete-game shutout August 23 against Richmond... tossed 9.0 innings, giving up six hits and striking out seven for Charlotte.
• Held right-handed batters to a .226 BA (28-for-124) while at Charlotte.

1997

• Signed to a Minor League contract by Florida in 1997 and led Marlins organization with 17 wins... started 5-0 for AA Portland and followed with a 12-5 record at AAA Charlotte... his win total during partial season at Charlotte (12) was the most by a Knight since Julian Tavarez (15) and Albie Lopez (13) in 1994.
• Had a no-decision in first start of the year with Sea Dogs, then won next five outings, allowing more than two runs in a game once... earned trip to AAA by surrendering four earned runs in last four starts (25.0 IP) for a 1.44 ERA... posted a victory in first three starts at AAA, an overall eight-game streak... won seven of his last eight AAA decisions (nine starts), posting a 3.75 ERA (25 ER, 60.0 IP).

1996

• Spent all of 1996 with AAA Buffalo going 5-7 with a 5.60 ERA in 20 games (18 starts)... gave up only six homers in 90.0 innings.

• 1995

  • Optioned in 1995 to AAA Ottawa where he had no record in four games (three starts) before trade to Mets... went 7-0 with a 0.90 ERA in 10 starts for AAA Norfolk (NYM)... allowed just seven earned runs in 70.1 innings, including wins in last five starts where he allowed three earned runs in 36.0 IP (0.75 ERA).

  1994

  • Spent all of 1994 at Ottawa where he was 9-8 in 25 appearances (24 as a starter)... spent the winter playing for Escogido in the Dominican League.

  1993

  • Went 10-7 for AA Harrisburg in 1993... first injury-free season since turning pro in 1989... tied for third in Eastern League in starts (27) and was sixth in strikeouts (119).

  1992

  • Was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training in 1992 with Expos and rated the second best prospect in the Montreal organization by Baseball America... had campaign cut short with right elbow injury... made four starts for Harrisburg before being placed on disabled list April 27 and had surgery to repair ligament damage on May 14 in Los Angeles by Dr. Frank Jobe.

  1991

  • Combined stops in 1991 at Class A West Palm Beach and Harrisburg for a 10-4 mark and 2.46 ERA... finished fifth in Florida State League with 2.39 ERA, while holding opposing hitters to .205 mark... was promoted to AA July 22 and tossed a complete game shutout in debut on July 26, a 4-0 win over Williamsport, earning Eastern League's Player-of-the-Week honor... placed on disabled list August 6 with right elbow strain and was out for the remainder of the year.

  1990

  • Made just 11 starts for West Palm Beach in 1990, spending May 17-August 7 on the DL with tendinitis in right elbow... spent fall in the Florida Instructional League.
